Wizards of the Coast officially debuted Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY at PAX East on May 10, 2025, with a presentation about the set’s mechanics, artwork and other details. Wizards announced a livestream and on-demand video, but its announcement does not confirm that the recording runs for two hours. The tabletop set launched globally on June 13, 2025.
What is the Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY set?
It is a Magic crossover set built around characters, items and moments from all sixteen mainline FINAL FANTASY games, according to Wizards’ official product page. The set translates the long-running role-playing series into Magic cards and products, including a main set and Commander decks.
The collecting guide counts 309 cards in the main set, identified by the code FIN. It also lists 64 cards in FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages (FCA) and a Commander set (FIC). These codes matter if you are sorting cards or checking which release a card belongs to.
What did Wizards reveal at the PAX East presentation?
Wizards’ official preview announcement scheduled the debut for May 10, 2025, at PAX East and said it would cover mechanics, artwork and more. The announcement also promised a livestream and an on-demand video afterward. It does not establish a two-hour runtime, identify a particular recording as two hours long, or provide a transcript or named-speaker quotations.

That means “2-hour video” should be treated as an unverified description, not a confirmed runtime for the official debut. The event itself and its stated subject matter are documented by Wizards; the exact length is not.
When did the set come out?
The original global tabletop release was June 13, 2025. Prerelease events ran June 6–12, while the set became available on MTG Arena on June 10, according to Wizards’ collecting guide and product page. The Gift Bundle followed on June 27.

Wizards later announced a continuation for December 5, 2025, with additional treatments, products, cards and Scene Boxes. The announcement included a FINAL FANTASY VII Commander Deck—Game Edition, specified as available only in North America. This later release does not change the original set’s June tabletop launch.

Wizards’ collecting guide says FIN cards are legal in Standard. FIC and FCA cards are legal in Commander, Legacy and Vintage; individual cards may have additional format legality if they have already appeared in other sets. Check the legality of a specific card before building a deck, since the set code alone does not describe every possible format in which that card is allowed.
