What’s new in Stardew Valley 1.6?
The official Stardew Valley 1.6 Update Full Changelog describes the launch update. Its headline additions include three new events, Meadowlands Farm, Mastery, expanded NPC dialogue, and new items and town features. Later notes for versions 1.6.4, 1.6.6, and 1.6.9 document further changes and fixes, so “1.6” can mean either the launch update or the broader patch series.

What is the new Stardew Valley festival?
Desert Festival
The Desert Festival is a new three-day spring event. It becomes accessible once you have repaired the bus, making bus repair the key progression requirement. The launch changelog does not specify the festival’s exact dates within spring or provide a full schedule, so those details should not be inferred from its season and duration alone.
Trout Derby and SquidFest
These are two additional mini fishing festivals listed in the launch changelog. They broaden the festival calendar with fishing-focused events; the changelog summary does not establish exact dates or rewards.

How do I unlock the Desert Festival?
- Repair the bus. The official launch changelog identifies a repaired bus as the access condition for the Desert Festival.
- Visit during the spring event. It runs for three days in spring; the cited changelog summary does not give exact calendar dates.
What is Meadowlands Farm?
Meadowlands is a new farm type for a fresh save. It starts with a coop and two chickens, so animal raising is part of the farm’s opening setup rather than something you must build toward from nothing. The farm’s chewy blue grass is described as especially appealing to animals. The changelog does not establish that this makes Meadowlands objectively better than other farm starts; its distinguishing appeal is an animal-oriented beginning.
How does Mastery work in 1.6?
Mastery adds a progression system accessed through a new area. It grants powerful perks and items as players progress. The official launch changelog presents those broad features but does not, in its summary, provide enough detail to map every unlock or recommend a specific progression route.
What else does the 1.6 update add?
More character and festival variation
NPC dialogue expands with custom reactions to gifts and conversations that respond to events. Characters also have winter outfits. Festival maps and dialogue change every second year, with the Night Market and Desert Festival excluded from that alternating update.

Quality-of-life and gameplay examples
Other launch changes include a Ginger Island world map, pets sometimes giving gifts, the ability to have multiple pets after reaching max hearts with the starter pet, and upgrades and enchantments for the pan. The changelog contains more changes beyond these examples.

What changed in later 1.6 patches?
The 1.6 series continued after launch. Official notes for version 1.6.4 include alternate mine layouts, fish frenzies, and raccoon-shop changes.
