The official notes available for this update do not verify an Elden Ring version 1.18. They document version 1.17, released August 27, 2026, and a later version 1.17.1 notice dated September 8. Version 1.17 includes balance changes, PvP-specific adjustments, and bug fixes; version 1.17.1 addresses a conditional multiplayer item-acquisition issue.
Which Elden Ring update is confirmed?
Bandai Namco’s English patch notes for version 1.17 are dated August 27, 2026. The official Japanese site later announced App Ver. 1.17.1 and Regulation Ver. 1.17.1 on September 8, 2026. The cited official notices do not document version 1.18, so the changes below should not be attributed to 1.18.
The 1.17 notice says, “This update is required for online play.” The Japanese 1.17.1 notice likewise says applying that update is required for online play; that detail is translated from the official notice, not quoted from an English version.
What changed in version 1.17?
Bandai Namco describes 1.17 as adding support for the Tarnished Pack DLC and implementing gameplay balance adjustments. The listed platforms are PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The notice separately says Tarnished Pack content is included by default in ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2.

Among the named changes, Smithscript Dagger and Rellana’s Twin Blades receive increased critical-hit power. Listed weapon-throwing attacks use less stamina and gain power; Carian Sorcery Sword Intelligence scaling changes; several perfume bottles gain power; and named shields receive guard-boost or weight changes.
Parry, Storm Wall, and Thops’s Barrier receive performance improvements. Storm Wall no longer consumes FP. The notes also list adjustments to several sorceries and incantations; they do not provide a single overall balance direction for every item in those categories.

PvP-exclusive adjustments
These changes are specifically identified as applying against other players:
- Rakshasa’s Great Katana causes its user to take increased damage from other players while attacking.
- Rugalea’s Roar has reduced power against other players.
- Rotten Breath and Ekzykes’s Decay leave other player characters unable to move for less time after hit reactions.

- Great Katana jumping attacks could be parried; this is fixed.
- On PC, mouse camera control during NPC dialogue is fixed.
- On PC, an issue that reset keyboard and mouse settings is fixed.
What does version 1.17.1 fix?
The official Japanese version 1.17.1 update notice reports a fix for a multiplayer issue that could, under specific conditions, let players obtain items they normally could not obtain. The notice also states that the update is required for online play. It identifies the application version and regulation version as 1.17.1.

Do you need to buy anything to install the update?
The patch notes describe updates and do not say that buying a new copy is required to read or apply them. The 1.17 notice says Tarnished Pack content is included by default in Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2; it does not establish that the same inclusion applies to every edition or platform. For base-game and edition details, consult the official ELDEN RING site. It states that Shadow of the Erdtree requires the base game.
