The changes included staged task and trader unlocks, cheaper insurance, and updates to repairs and repair kits. Later Seasons are a separate system with seasonal characters and their own modifiers.
What changed during the 2025 Hardcore Wipe?
Battlestate described the adjustments in separate posts on its official Escape from Tarkov Telegram feed, rather than in a single consolidated “Softcore Wipe Changes” changelog. The documented changes covered progression, insurance, and repair mechanics.
- Tasks and trader loyalty: Previously unavailable tasks were unlocked for Peacekeeper, Skier, Ragman, Fence, Mechanic, and other traders. Loyalty Level 2 or 3 became available when the corresponding conditions were met. This was a staged unlock, not an announcement that every task and trader level was immediately available.
- Insurance: Battlestate said it “Reduced the cost of item insurance in half.” That describes the particular adjustment in the post; it should not be read as a current, universal insurance price.
- Repair kits and repairs: Posts described increased weapon and armor repair-kit spawn chances, adjusted kit durability, faster leveling for repair-related skills, and a higher chance of enhancement when repairing with kits. Other posts adjusted some repair costs.
The Telegram feed is a historical stream of posts, so these categories are documented adjustments, not a guaranteed exhaustive list of everything that changed during the experiment.
How the later Seasons system differs
Battlestate’s Patch 1.1.0.0 announcement introduced Seasons with the first season, KORD BREACH. Seasonal characters are separate from the persistent PvP Zone and PvE Zone profiles, and players can create or switch seasonal characters from a dedicated selection screen.

Seasonal resets
The announcement says seasonal-character progression resets automatically every four to six months, alongside a major content update and the start of a new season. That cadence applies to seasonal characters; it does not describe a reset schedule for the separate persistent PvP Zone or PvE Zone profiles.
Global and personal modifiers
Each season has global modifiers, which apply to all seasonal participants and cannot be individually selected, changed, or disabled. The active global modifiers are shown when creating a seasonal character. Personal modifiers let players customize progression by making specified gameplay elements harder or easier. Battlestate describes global modifiers as rules that “alter, simplify, or increase the difficulty of specific gameplay elements,” and says each season will have a different set.

These season rules are not evidence that every adjustment from the earlier Hardcore Wipe experiment became a permanent setting.
Did the Hardcore Wipe changes become permanent?
The official posts establish that Battlestate made the adjustments, but they do not establish that the whole experimental ruleset was made permanent. A separate Steam announcement lists later economy and progression changes applying across PvP Season, PvP Zone, and PvE Zone. It includes trader prices and loyalty requirements, Flea Market fees, trade offers, some early Hideout requirements, insurance, healing, repairs, and experience. Because that patch applies across those modes, it should be treated as a separate set of balance notes—not proof that each Hardcore Wipe adjustment persisted unchanged.

For historical context, PC Gamer reported on July 15, 2025 that Battlestate restored selection of all locations after the initial wipe restricted map access, and that boss spawn chances were reduced from 100% to 70%. Those figures describe the changes reported at that time, not current spawn rates.

A secondary mirror of a developer Q&A attributes to Battlestate head Nikita Buyanov the comment that a future season may be soft-core and laid-back. The same mirror reports that seasonal experience and items would not transfer to a permanent character. These are reported Q&A answers, not a complete official season specification; the mirror does not provide a full modifier list or establish a final policy for every future season.

Accordingly, the phrase “softcore wipe” can refer to players’ description of the 2025 experiment, or to a possible future season discussed in the Q&A. The official material reviewed here does not provide one definitive, complete softcore ruleset under that name.
