Effie Reviews: What the Marketing Awards and Case Library Offer

Effie is a marketing-effectiveness awards and learning platform, not a customer-review site. Here’s how its judging, case library, and market-specific rules work.

“Effie Reviews” is ambiguous: it could mean feedback on an awards program, the Effie Insights case library, or another product named Effie. The available information points to Effie’s marketing-effectiveness awards and learning resources—not a collection of customer reviews. Effie is a marketing-industry organization, not a video-game product or service. This overview explains how its awards are judged and what readers can learn from its published cases; rules and access may vary by competition and market.

What is Effie?

Effie Worldwide describes its mission as championing the practice and practitioners of marketing effectiveness. Its offerings include awards, professional development through Effie Academy, and Effie Insights, which includes a case library and the Effie Index. Effie defines effectiveness around marketing that advances a stated goal, such as business growth, sales, or a change in brand perception.

The Effie Index ranks agencies, marketers, brands, networks, and holding companies using finalist and winner data from Effie competitions. It is a ranking based on award results, not a direct measurement of every organization’s marketing performance.

How are Effie cases judged?

Effie describes a multi-round process: judges identify finalists, determine winners and award levels, and then select the Grand Effie. Cases are considered through four pillars, scored separately, with results weighted slightly more heavily than the other pillars:

  • Challenge, context and objectives: the problem the marketing faced, its setting, and the goals set for the work.
  • Insight and strategy: the understanding and strategic choices behind the campaign.
  • Bringing the strategy and idea to life: how the work was executed.
  • Results: evidence of performance against the stated objectives.

Effie says its benchmarks are fixed across competitions and years. A category may have no winner if no entry meets its benchmarks, or more than one winner if multiple cases exceed them. Entrants are expected to provide sourced evidence connecting results to objectives, identify other marketplace factors that may have influenced outcomes, and account for those factors when attributing impact to marketing.

That process makes an award a useful signal that a case met Effie’s criteria—not proof that marketing alone caused every reported result. Readers assessing a case should examine its objectives, evidence, attribution, and market context.

What can you learn from Effie Insights?

Effie describes Insights as drawing on more than 50 years of award-winning cases from 130+ markets. Its library includes thousands of written cases, case films, and creative assets from national, regional, and global campaigns. These are Effie’s descriptions of its own collection.

The material can help marketers study how other teams framed a business challenge, built a strategy, brought an idea to market, and reported outcomes. A published award case is an example to analyze, not a guarantee that the same approach will work for another organization, audience, or market. Differences in timing, competition, distribution, and other conditions matter.

What do Effie’s published figures say?

Effie’s official pages report that more than 25,000 judges have participated and that its Insights material spans 130+ markets; the pages do not specify a reporting year for those figures. The scale claims describe Effie’s own programs and collection.

Effie’s 2026 book page for The Creative Dividend: Advertising That Pays Back reports analysis of 1,265 campaigns across the U.S., Europe, the UK, and Ireland, representing $139 billion in market share and consumer responses from more than 200,000 people. The same page attributes an average of 60.1% of campaign Business Results—and as much as 98.3% in certain categories—to creativity and media planned together. Those figures are the book page’s reported findings, not a universal causal rule. Its page also says 41% of marketers still see creativity as a risk; without survey-method detail on that page, the figure should not be treated as a general-population estimate.

Are the awards and cases useful to you?

Effie is most relevant if you want to understand how marketing work is evaluated against stated objectives, study award-winning campaign examples, or use its rankings as one reference point. It is less suited to a reader looking for consumer reviews of a product or for a guarantee that an award-winning campaign’s outcomes can be reproduced.

If you are comparing Effie with another award or learning resource, look at its evidence and attribution requirements, judging stages and criteria, market and category coverage, access to past cases, confidentiality and publication rules, and training or benchmarking features. Those distinctions affect what an award or case collection can tell you.

Entry rules depend on the competition

Effie’s U.S. entry guidance says judges review both the written case and creative work, with anonymous and confidential scoring. It also says entrants may permit publication of a finalist or winning written case, either as submitted or in an edited version. This guidance is specific to the United States; deadlines, entry requirements, and publication permissions should be checked against the current rules for the relevant competition.
