Fields of Hatred are optional PvP zones in Diablo IV, in the southern parts of Dry Steppes and Kehjistan. You can enter either zone to gather Seeds of Hatred, but they are not spendable currency: carry them to an Altar of Extraction and complete its ritual to turn them into Red Dust. Other players can contest that conversion, so the activity combines PvE farming with the risk of PvP.
Where are the Fields of Hatred?
There are two Fields of Hatred, one in the southern part of each region. The hubs named by Wowhead are Alzuuda in Dry Steppes and Denshar in Kehjistan. Its Fields of Hatred PvP Guide, updated March 11, 2026 for Season 12, describes entering either zone by walking into it and receiving an introductory tutorial quest. It does not specify a separate campaign or level requirement. Because the guide is season-specific and the mechanics have not been independently confirmed for the current game version, check the in-game map and prompts for current details.

Is PvP compulsory?
No. The guide describes marking for blood through the emote wheel: a marked player can attack and be attacked by other marked players. That means you can enter to pursue the zone’s activities without deliberately flagging yourself for PvP, but you still face a risk from other players while trying to extract Seeds. The guide specifically says players become vulnerable to marked players during extraction.
How do Seeds of Hatred become Red Dust?
- Gather Seeds in a Field of Hatred. The Season 12 guide lists zone activities such as killing elites and larger enemies, completing events, and defeating players as sources.
- Find an Altar of Extraction. Interact with it to begin the conversion ritual. Starting the ritual alerts other players, and the guide says enemy waves also appear.
- Complete the ritual. Other players may interrupt or contest you, so carrying Seeds to an altar is a risk rather than an automatic cash-in.
- Spend the resulting Red Dust. Successful extraction converts Seeds into the currency used by vendors in the Fields’ hubs.
Wowhead’s guide also describes a Hatred’s Chosen status after a player has killed enough other players: it reveals that player on other players’ maps and offers additional Seeds if they survive. This is a volatile, version-sensitive mechanic; verify its current trigger and effects in game rather than relying on the Season 12 description.

Which zone should you choose?
Wowhead’s March 11, 2026 guide reports four Altars of Extraction in Dry Steppes and five in Kehjistan, and characterizes Kehjistan as having greater elite density. It recommends Kehjistan for elite farming, but gives no measured farming rates. Treat these as guide-reported Season 12 details, not guarantees about the current season.
| Zone | Hub | Guide-reported altar count | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dry Steppes | Alzuuda | Four (Wowhead, updated March 11, 2026) | Choose based on your route, activity and willingness to risk a contested extraction. |
| Kehjistan | Denshar | Five (Wowhead, updated March 11, 2026) | Wowhead describes greater elite density and recommends it for elite farming; no measured rates are provided. |
What can you buy with Red Dust?
The Season 12 guide lists hub-vendor offerings that include armor appearances, mount customization, random items and cursed scrolls usable only in the Fields of Hatred. Offerings and prices can change, so inspect the vendors in game before farming for a particular item. Do not assume the guide’s season-specific item list or prices are still current.

Is the activity worth trying?
It is a fit if you want a PvP-enabled farming loop or cosmetics and other vendor rewards tied to the Fields of Hatred. It is less suitable if you want risk-free currency farming: Seeds remain at risk until an extraction ritual succeeds, and the guide says other players can contest that window. Decide whether to prioritize PvE activity, a route to an altar, or the possibility of player combat, then check current mechanics and vendor stock in your game version.
