What is confirmed about the Shiny Rayquaza event?
In a December 6, 2024 article, The Pokémon Company International said that Azumarill and Clodsire would appear in five-star Tera Raid Battles and described them as popular choices for Tera Raids, including the then-upcoming Shiny Rayquaza event. That confirms the event was planned for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, but the article does not provide Rayquaza’s full event dates or instructions. Read the official December 2024 announcement.

Can you catch Shiny Rayquaza in Scarlet or Violet now?
Current availability is unverified. The available official reference is historical and does not confirm that the event has returned or can be started in 2026. Pokémon Support says distribution events are announced on pokemon.com when information becomes available and does not confirm unannounced events or possible re-releases. Check Pokémon Support’s event policy, then look for an official announcement or current Poké Portal News before planning around a raid.
What to do if Pokémon announces a return
- Confirm the announcement is for Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet and check the event’s start and end dates.
- Read the official instructions for how to access the event, its raid rules, and whether Rayquaza can be caught directly or must be claimed another way.
- Follow the announcement’s stated requirements and deadline. The December 2024 preparation article alone does not provide Rayquaza’s raid schedule, star rating, capture rules, or battle strategy.
Do not assume another special Pokémon event works the same way. For example, the separate 2025 Shiny Treasures of Ruin event used Mystery Gift claims for certain featured Pokémon rather than allowing players to catch those Pokémon by defeating them in raids. Those rules apply to that event, not necessarily to Rayquaza. See the official Wo-Chien event announcement.

Does owning Scarlet or Violet unlock the event?
No. Buying either game does not by itself grant access to a past event or establish that Shiny Rayquaza is obtainable now. If you already own one of the games, use official event announcements and in-game news to confirm availability before taking action.
