Alcina Dimitrescu was designed to be both alluring and frightening: Capcom built her towering height, wide-brim hat and white dress into the concept from the start, then added long claws later to make her a more immediate physical threat. Presentation director Masato Miyazaki says Maggie Robertson’s performance ultimately gave the character her personality and intentions; Robertson has said she approached Dimitrescu’s movement as catlike.
What Capcom wanted Dimitrescu to be
Resident Evil Village director Morimasa Sato said Alcina Dimitrescu began with a desire to create a character with considerable charisma. The team did not anticipate how positively audiences would respond. In Capcom’s May 2021 interview on the PlayStation Blog, the developers describe the castle sequence through the idea of “beautiful horror”: attraction and elegance are meant to coexist with danger.

That balance is important to how Dimitrescu reads on screen. She is not simply a large monster or a glamorous figure; the design makes her imposing while preserving the composure and charisma that make her unsettling. The interview does not identify a specific real-world person or source as her inspiration.
Which parts of her design came first—and what changed?

These details come from Engadget’s October 2021 interview with presentation director Masato Miyazaki. He said the core visual traits stayed consistent, while the claws were a later addition. His account draws a useful distinction: Dimitrescu’s recognizable look was established early, but the team continued to sharpen how dangerous she would feel.

Why her height changes the castle
Capcom’s stated height for Dimitrescu is 9 feet 6 inches including her hat and heels; this is the character’s height, not Maggie Robertson’s. The exaggerated scale was intended to affect how she occupies the environment, not just to make her stand out in a character lineup.
Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda described the concept in an Apple Developer feature published June 5, 2023: “The idea for Lady Dimitrescu was a huge character who was too big for the castle itself.” She has to duck through doorways, making the architecture part of the threat: her approach feels imposing because she seems almost too large for the space she inhabits.

The height also created practical challenges for scenes with other characters. Miyazaki said the production used backgrounds at both human and Dimitrescu scale, arranged furniture so performers could face one another, and used markers for eye lines and limb positions. He said Robertson was asked to act naturally rather than have her height artificially extended, because an extension would have compromised the performance.
How Maggie Robertson brought her to life
Miyazaki credited Robertson’s performance with completing the characterization, saying, “It was through Maggie’s performance that the character was finally given life.” Robertson provided Dimitrescu’s voice and motion-capture performance, while model Helena Mankowska’s face was used for the character, according to a March 2022 Game Developer interview.

Robertson has described studying animals and using a catlike quality as a starting point for Dimitrescu’s physicality. She characterized the movement as sensual and deliberate: “She’s gonna be more sensual and curvy and she takes her time.” That is Robertson’s account of her acting approach, distinct from the developers’ description of the original design concept.

Capcom’s account of iteration is most detailed about the family and the three daughters, rather than a complete chronology of Alcina’s own concept art. Sato said the team settled on three daughters after considering how many Ethan should encounter and how those encounters would affect game balance and pacing.

Art director Tomonori Takano described several early daughter concepts: blood-dependent enemies, mummification, and flight using wings emerging from their heads. The team also explored giant scissors, long leech-like tongues and whips. The final insect-swarm concept expressed the idea that ordinary means would not defeat them. The developers at one point considered dozens of sisters, but testing the encounter tempo led them to the final family structure of Alcina and three daughters.
Sato also emphasized that Resident Evil’s seemingly supernatural enemies need an explanation consistent with their being living beings. Together, those decisions show how the castle’s beautiful-horror approach was translated into enemy encounters, but they should not be mistaken for a documented sequence of changes to Dimitrescu’s own design.
