Game8’s spell tier list, last updated April 4, 2025, puts Blackbow, Freezing Pillar, Spirit Lance, Blast of Frost, Minor Missiles, and Pull of Eora in S tier. It ranks Grimoire Snap, Blizzard, Arcane Seal, Meteor Shower, and Missile Salvo in A tier. These are one guide’s rankings—not a universal or independently verified measure of the strongest spells. Your best pick depends on the kind of combat you want.
Which spells are ranked highest?
Game8’s Avowed spell tier list assigns the following spells to its top two tiers:

Game8 lists April 4, 2025 as the update date. The ranking is useful as a shortlist, but the available information does not establish its testing method or confirm that the order remains optimal after later game updates.
How to choose a spell for your play style
There is no single best spell for every build. Obsidian describes Avowed combat as a mix of weapons, spells, and shields, with magic that can trap, freeze, or burn enemies. Xbox Wire describes Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, and Godlike skill trees. Those broad options make your preferred combat approach a better starting point than treating a tier label as a personal recommendation.

- Interested in elemental effects or control? Obsidian highlights trapping, freezing, and burning as kinds of spell effects. The cited sources do not map those effects to every named spell.
- Considering a skill-tree direction? Xbox Wire names Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, and Godlike trees, and identifies Grimoire Snap and Blood Magic as abilities. It does not provide enough detail here to determine which tree or ability is optimal for a particular spell build.
These official descriptions explain the range of combat approaches, but they do not supply a mechanics-by-mechanics comparison of the tier-list spells. They do not establish spell damage, resource cost, cast time, cooldown, duration, or performance against bosses or groups. Use the ranking to identify candidates, then check each spell’s in-game description and your own build before committing.

The S- and A-tier placements are Game8’s editorial judgment, not a demonstrated performance consensus. The list gives readers a starting set of spells to investigate, but the cited material does not explain why each spell earned its tier or compare its effectiveness in particular encounters. Avoid reading an S-tier label as proof that a spell will outperform another in every build or situation.
