Oricorio is best treated as a defensive anti-ex pick in Pokémon TCG Pocket, not a proven top-tier deck. Its Safeguard ability blocks damage from attacks by opposing Pokémon ex, but non-ex attackers and other sources of damage can still answer it. The most defensible starting point is a small-sample healing-and-control list; an older Electric/Magnezone build offers a slower route to stronger finishing power.
Is Oricorio a good deck in the current meta?
As of October 8, 2026, the available results do not support calling Oricorio one of the leading current-meta decks. Pokémon Zone says it has not been played in the current Deluxe Pack: Mega meta; its latest reported window is Ruler of the Skies, where it recorded a 51.2% win rate across 82 matches. That is a larger sample than the later archive snapshot, but it is not current-meta evidence. Pokémon Zone’s Oricorio page
The Pokémon TCG Pocket Archive reports 58.8% across 17 games and three deck samples from August 14–September 10, 2026, and labels the result an early signal. Its reported 0.1% meta share comes from the same small window. The archive aggregates public standard-Swiss tournaments on the Limitless Tournament Platform. These figures come from different trackers and time windows, so they are not a controlled comparison and cannot establish stable performance. Pokémon TCG Pocket Archive’s Oricorio page
That makes Oricorio a niche anti-ex strategy to try when opposing Pokémon ex are common—not a settled “best deck” choice. Treat either list below as a starting point and adjust it to the non-ex attackers and control effects you actually encounter.

What Oricorio does—and what it does not stop
The relevant card is Electric-type Pom-Pom Oricorio from Celestial Guardians, card A3-066. Its Safeguard ability prevents damage from attacks by opposing Pokémon ex. Its Zzzap attack deals 50 damage, allowing it to contribute chip damage while a partner or longer game plan develops. Pokémon Zone and 20cards’ Oricorio strategy guide describe the card’s role in defensive and Electric strategies.
Safeguard is not blanket immunity. It does not prevent damage from non-ex Pokémon, and it does not block damage or pressure from status effects or abilities. Opponents can also try switching or control effects to dislodge Oricorio from the Active spot. The deck aims to make an ex-heavy opponent change plans while Oricorio heals, controls the pace, and chips away; if that plan cannot close the game, its defensive advantage may not be enough.

Small-sample starting list: healing and control
The archive’s representative 20-card configuration is based on only three tracked decks. It is explicitly experimental, with 14 core slots and six flexible slots, so use it as a template rather than a verified optimal list. The tracker reports Lightning Energy in all of its sampled archetype lists. Pokémon TCG Pocket Archive
| Category | Cards |
|---|---|
| Pokémon (2) | Oricorio ×2 |
| Trainers (18) | Irida ×2; Pokémon Center Lady ×2; Lucky Ice Pop ×2; Soothing Shore ×2; Professor’s Research ×2; Cyrus ×1; Sabrina ×1; Potion ×1; Field Blower ×1; Giant Cape ×1; Rocky Helmet ×1; Repel ×1; Rainbow Cave ×1 |
| Energy | Lightning (reported in 100% of the archive’s tracked archetype lists) |
Irida, Pokémon Center Lady, Lucky Ice Pop, Soothing Shore, and Professor’s Research were the most consistently included cards in the three-list sample. The list’s healing and control emphasis supports a defensive plan, but it also asks you to survive long enough for gradual damage to matter. The archive’s displayed tournament calendar does not tie individual Oricorio lists to specific events, so its results should not be read as evidence that this exact configuration won those events.

Alternative: Electric Oricorio/Magnezone
GamesRadar published an older 20-card Electric list about three months before October 8, 2026. It pairs Oricorio with Magnemite and Magnezone, adding higher-powered finishers at the cost of a more involved setup. It is an alternative shell, not a verified October 2026 best list. | Category | Cards |
|---|---|
| Pokémon (9) | Oricorio ×2; Magnemite ×2; Genetic Apex Magneton ×2; Magnezone ×1; Magnezone ex ×1; Teal Mask Ogerpon ex ×1 |
| Trainers (11) | Giant Cape; Cyrus; Copycat; Lisia; Clemont; Lucky Ice Pop; Poké Ball; Professor’s Research (the guide names these cards; counts for individual cards are not stated here) |
The guide’s listed Trainer names do not account for all 11 Trainer slots in the reported 20-card list, so do not infer missing counts from the category total. GamesRadar flags slow access to major damage and the bench space used by the supporting Pokémon as drawbacks.

Choosing between the two builds
| Consideration | Healing/control list | Electric/Magnezone shell |
|---|---|---|
| Core plan | Keep Oricorio in play with healing and control while it chips away. | Use Oricorio defensively while developing Electric attackers for stronger damage. |
| Setup and damage pace | Relies on a gradual plan; the archive does not establish a reliable damage or win-rate benchmark for this exact list. | GamesRadar describes access to major damage as slow. |
| Known trade-off | Based on three tracked lists; six slots are flexible. | Supporting Pokémon compete for bench space; the list is older and not verified for the current meta. |
| Current head-to-head evidence | No current comparison establishes a winner between these builds. | |
How opponents can counter Oricorio
- Use non-ex attackers. Safeguard only protects against attacks from Pokémon ex. A 20cards strategy guide recommends applying pressure with non-ex attackers rather than relying entirely on ex Pokémon; this is strategic advice, not a guaranteed matchup result. 20cards
- Apply damage through other effects. Status effects and abilities are not covered by Safeguard’s attack-damage protection.
- Disrupt the Active spot. Switching or control effects can force Oricorio out of the position where it is slowing ex attackers.
- Keep pressure on. A slow, healing-heavy plan can fall behind if non-ex damage or Active-spot control prevents its chip damage from finishing the game.
How to pilot the deck
- Check the opponent’s likely damage plan. Oricorio’s strongest role is against opposing Pokémon ex attacks. If the matchup leans on non-ex attackers or other damage sources, do not assume Safeguard will buy a safe setup window.
- Build toward a way to finish. In the healing/control version, use the defensive tools to sustain the chip-damage plan. In the Magnezone shell, develop the Electric line while accounting for setup time and limited bench space.
- Use healing and control to preserve turns, not as the win condition. Oricorio still needs enough time and damage to close the game; healing alone does not solve non-ex pressure or forced switches.
- Adapt the flexible slots to what you face. The archive labels six slots flexible, but its three-deck sample does not establish a universally correct set of replacements.
