Activision has not published a complete, current city-by-city list of dedicated-server locations for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Its public matchmaking paper explains how Call of Duty selects data centers and gives regional examples, but those examples are not an official MWIII server directory.
Does Activision provide a full MWIII server-location list?
No exhaustive, current MWIII list of server cities or facilities appears in Activision’s public technical paper, “Call of Duty Matchmaking Series: Ping”. That paper discusses Call of Duty matchmaking and data centers generally; it does not establish a complete inventory specific to MWIII. So claims that an official full list of MWIII dedicated-server locations has been released go beyond what the document supports.

The paper names Germany, Holland, France, Bahrain, South Africa, and Oceania among examples used to explain matchmaking. It also discusses Europe and North America as regions. These are illustrative references, not confirmation of a server facility in every named place or a complete list of the cities used by MWIII.
How Call of Duty chooses a data center
The client measures ping and packet loss to data centers, and matchmaking seeks a center that meets acceptable connection and match criteria. Geography alone does not determine the best connection: the route taken by a player’s internet traffic and current network conditions can make a farther center perform better than a nearer one.
#1 Best Overall
- Call of Duty: Modern Wafare II PS5
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the sequel to 2019’s blockbuster Modern Warfare.
- Featuring the return of the iconic, team leader Captain John Price, the fearless John "Soap" MacTavish, the seasoned Sergeant Kyle "Gaz” Garrick, and the lone wolf himself, fan favorite Simon “Ghost” Riley, players will witness what makes Task Force 141 the legendary squad it is today.
- Some features may require an internet connection and an online subscription
Matchmaking also balances connection quality against finding a match. Search population, playlist, time of day, and data-center capacity can affect the result, so a match may use a center outside the player’s ideal region when local options or suitable players are limited. Activision describes the system as using an acceptable data-center backoff to reduce the difference between players’ ping and their best available data-center ping, subject to the available search population.
What Activision’s published ping figures mean
Activision Publishing’s 2024 paper reports that 94% of Call of Duty players have a best data-center ping of 50 milliseconds or less. It also says 75% of match results are within 10 milliseconds of players’ best possible data-center ping, and 95% are within 20 milliseconds. These are figures for Call of Duty matchmaking as presented in the paper, not an independent, current MWIII-only measurement.

- ADAPT OR DIE IN A FIGHT AGAINST THE ULTIMATE THREAT
- Combat means making choices — different loadouts, different paths through the mission. Combat missions that provide more player choice. There is no one-size-fits-all solution – it is your choice whether to take the stealthy approach or go loud taking on any and all foes.
- One of the greatest collections of Multiplayer maps ever. Launching with new Ground War maps boasting innovative play spaces and the epic return and evolution of the popular War Mode
The paper’s regional Delta Ping discussion uses a November 9–15, 2023 snapshot, shortly after MWIII launched. It notes that players in South Africa may be matched to European data centers in large-player-count modes when local search volume is low. This illustrates why matchmaking outcomes can vary by mode and demand; it is not a guarantee about where a particular match will be hosted.
Why the “about 40 data centers” figure is not a location directory
Activision’s paper uses approximately 40 data centers in an illustrative calculation about Core Multiplayer searches across roughly 40 playlists. That modeling figure is not a precise, current count of MWIII locations, and it does not identify 40 cities or facilities. It should not be used to construct or validate a city-by-city server list.

What to check when matchmaking puts you in a distant server
- Compare in-game ping, not map distance. The connection’s actual latency reflects routing and network conditions as well as geography.
- Consider the playlist and time. Less local search activity, particularly in modes requiring larger player counts, can limit nearby matches.
- Allow for capacity and matchmaking criteria. The system can select a different data center to find a viable match.
- Use Activision’s MWIII help pages for connection issues. The Modern Warfare III Support hub links to setup, connection, lag/performance, and known-issue resources. It is a support entry point, not a server-location directory.
MWIII release context
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launched on November 10, 2023, for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Battle.net, and Steam, according to Activision Blizzard’s launch announcement. The release announcement confirms platforms and date; it does not publish server cities or offer a way to choose one.
