You can get Blindness in Minecraft by eating suspicious stew made with an azure bluet or an open eyeblossom, finding certain suspicious stew in shipwreck supply chests, or being hit by an Illusioner. If commands are enabled, Bedrock Edition also lets you apply the effect directly. Milk removes it.
What Blindness does
Blindness is a negative status effect that surrounds your view with dense black fog, making only the nearby area visible. It prevents you from starting a sprint and landing critical hits, but it does not end a sprint already in progress. The effect does not affect mobs, according to the Minecraft Wiki’s Blindness reference.
Blindness is different from Darkness, another status effect. It is also distinct from a Warden’s natural blindness: Wardens sense their surroundings through vibration, smell, and touch.
Ways to get Blindness in survival
Eat suspicious stew
Suspicious stew made with an azure bluet or an open eyeblossom can give you Blindness. The effect’s duration varies by edition and version, so there is no single duration that applies to every player.

Search shipwreck supply chests
Some shipwreck supply chests contain suspicious stew that applies Blindness. This depends on finding the right loot, so it is not a guaranteed way to obtain the effect.
Be hit by an Illusioner
An Illusioner can apply Blindness with an attack under the difficulty conditions described by the Minecraft Wiki.
Apply Blindness with a command
In Bedrock Edition, Microsoft documents this command:
/effect <player> blindness [seconds] [amplifier] [hideParticles]

Replace <player> with a player name or selector. The duration argument is optional and defaults to 30 seconds; the command reference does not establish a default duration for other editions. The syntax is documented in Microsoft’s Bedrock Edition effect command reference.
Can you brew a Blindness potion?
No standard potion of Blindness is listed in the reference. Suspicious stew and the other methods above are the documented gameplay routes; do not confuse Blindness with effects that can be brewed as ordinary potions.

How to remove Blindness
Drink milk to clear Blindness. In Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Education when education options are enabled, eye drops can also remove it.
