Work through these in order. Each one narrows the field a little more than the one before it.
- Length: The answer has five letters. Wordle gives you six guesses to find it.
- Vowels and letters: The word contains two vowels and no repeated letters, according to the clue set published by Parade. Double letters are ruled out.
- First letter: The word begins with a consonant.
- Meaning: A gentle semantic hint is “a spike.” Forbes words its hint as “A sudden spike or increase” in its Wordle answer article for February 12.
- Strong association: WordFinder points to a surge protector, which is the most direct hint in this set.

How Wordle’s color feedback works
If you are new to the game, Forbes describes Wordle as a daily puzzle in which you guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the tiles change color:
- Green: the letter is in the answer and in the correct position.
- Yellow: the letter is in the answer but in a different position.
- Gray: the letter does not appear in the answer.
Those three colors are the only feedback the game gives, so the clues above are most useful when you combine them with the pattern of greens and yellows from your own guesses.
