Tomb of Elders was introduced in Destiny 2’s Revenant Act II, but its original access and reward setup should be treated as historical: Bungie later deprecated Revenant-era items and its newer updates refer to Contest of Elders. For the Revenant-era activity, Bungie’s clearest loot advice was to complete bonus challenges and build three stacks of Warden’s Favor. The current Director node and a complete Tomb-specific loot table are not established by Bungie’s cited updates.
What Tomb of Elders is—and how its name fits later updates
Bungie introduced Tomb of Elders and Gauntlet of Elders with Destiny 2 Update 8.1.5 on November 19, 2024, as activities for Revenant Act II. Bungie’s Update 8.1.5 notes establish that launch context.

Later Bungie materials use the name Contest of Elders, including a June 2026 update that discusses changes to its rewards. That later reference describes a subsequent activity state or naming context; it does not establish that every rule, access route, or reward from Revenant-era Tomb of Elders carried over unchanged. Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 says Contest of Elders received reprised World Pool rewards in mid-activity and completion chests.
How to get more rewards in the Revenant-era activity
Build Warden’s Favor with bonus challenges
In its November 21, 2024 weekly update, Bungie advised players to pay attention to bonus challenges in Contest of Elders to impress the Warden and build Warden’s Favor. Bungie’s Destiny 2 community team wrote: “Keeping three stacks is the best way to earn tons of loot at the end of each completion.” This is Bungie’s historical recommendation for that activity context, not a guarantee of a particular item or quantity. Understand what the Tomb Gear tonic did
The same weekly update said the Tonic of Tomb Gear provided a chance to earn weapons and armor that drop from Tomb of Elders. Bungie described a chance, not a guaranteed drop. The announcement does not provide exact drop rates or a complete item-by-item loot table.
Bungie later adjusted Legendary tonic behavior on January 9, 2025: when triggered directly to a player’s loot feed, those tonics would guarantee associated weapon drops rather than share across multiple Revenant weapon drops. That was a specific historical tonic change, not evidence that Tomb Gear tonics or their old behavior are currently obtainable. Bungie’s January 9, 2025 weekly update.

What is known about rewards now
Bungie’s June 2026 notes confirm that Contest of Elders received reprised World Pool rewards in its mid-activity and completion chests. That update does not establish the original Tomb of Elders loot table, Tomb-specific drop rates, or a current mapping of individual items to reward sources. Do not assume the 2026 Contest rewards are the same as Revenant’s original loot.
Revenant-era items were also affected by the Year 8 lifecycle transition. Bungie’s July 15, 2025 notice lists Tonic Capsules and Tonic variations among items deprecated at the start of Year 8, and its content-vault information lists Tomb/Contest of Elders in the Year 8 activity section. Is Tomb of Elders available to launch?
The cited Bungie information does not establish the exact Director location in October 2026, whether the selectable node appears under the Tomb or Contest name, or what expansion or ownership requirements apply. Check the in-game Director and current Bungie activity information rather than relying on a launch path or access requirement from the Revenant launch period.

- Final-boss reward claim issue: Update 8.1.5.1, dated December 10, 2024, fixed an issue in which players waiting for revival after Tomb’s final boss could respawn in the Warden’s Office and be unable to claim rewards. - Stuck after death: A Bungie Year 7 known-issues page, last updated February 12, 2025, listed an issue where players with no revive tokens could get stuck at “Finding Spawn Location” after dying in Tomb/Challenge of Elders. Bungie’s June 2026 update also says traversal bonus objectives in Contest of Elders were made more consistent and another revive-token source was added. Those changes belong to the later Contest update, not necessarily the original Revenant version. Update 9.7.0.
