It is a relaxed, Mii-focused life simulation about creating island residents, shaping their surroundings and nudging their relationships—not a game built around a tightly prescribed series of objectives.
What is Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream?
Nintendo describes the game as a life simulation set on an island. You make Miis based on people you know, people you admire or original characters, then customize their appearance, voice, personality and quirks. You can offer advice and help residents connect, while their routines continue as time passes in step with the real world. Nintendo’s product page frames the experience around checking in on the characters and seeing what happens in their lives.
The appeal is the mix of authorship and surprise: you decide who lives on the island and how it looks, but the residents’ everyday interactions are a central part of the experience. Nintendo’s description supports an open-ended, character-driven format; it does not describe a conventional campaign with a fixed sequence of missions.
What do you do in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream?
Create residents and influence their relationships
Start by making Miis and adjusting their look, voice and personality. You can give them advice and help them connect. Placing residents near one another can prompt interactions, while checking in lets you see how their daily lives develop.

- Pick your Mii characters up and place them near each other to chat and hang out

Shape the island and its homes
You can visit shops and facilities, decorate or rearrange spaces, and expand the island. Up to eight residents can share a home, according to Nintendo’s feature announcement. The Palette House Workshop lets players create items including pets, drinks, clothing designs, house exteriors and ground tiles, extending customization beyond the characters themselves.
Drop in as their routines continue
Nintendo says time in the game passes in line with the real world, so residents continue their routines between visits. The company’s January 29 announcement encouraged players to check in daily; that is Nintendo’s description of the intended rhythm, not a requirement that you play every day.

Is Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo identifies it as a Nintendo Switch title and says it is playable on Nintendo Switch 2. The official materials cited here do not establish a separate Switch 2 edition, so the supported wording is that the Switch game is playable on Switch 2. Nintendo reported that approximately 40% of players were Switch 2 owners in its first-two-weeks reporting context; that is a launch-period figure, not a platform-specific sales breakdown. For anyone choosing whether to play, the practical question is whether they already own one of the supported consoles. Nintendo’s product announcement listed a regular US price of $59.99 on January 29, 2026; that dated listing is not confirmation of today’s price or of pricing in other regions. Check your local Nintendo store for current price and format availability. The US product page describes a downloadable version.

Can I try the Tomodachi Life demo?
Nintendo UK lists a free demo. Its page says demo progress can transfer to the full game and that completing the demo grants a hamster costume, which is also obtainable in the full game. These are UK-specific store-page details; check the Nintendo store for your region for demo availability and terms. Nintendo UK’s game page lists a 6.3 GB download size, also specific to that regional listing.

Nintendo reported global cumulative sell-through of more than 3.8 million units in the first two weeks after release. That is a two-week launch-period total, not lifetime sales. Nintendo’s investor presentation describes the release as surpassing that mark.
