Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It launched on both systems on November 18, 2025, with no advance release window, which is why it is often called a “shadow drop.” Aspyr worked with Tomb Raider on the Nintendo versions. The official Tomb Raider announcement was titled “Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Available NOW on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2!”
Release date and platforms
The official Tomb Raider announcement says the game was available immediately on both systems. Nintendo UK’s product page for the Switch 2 version gives the same release date, 18 November 2025, and names Aspyr as publisher. The announcement includes this sentence:

What the Definitive Edition includes
The official announcement describes this as the complete Definitive Edition package, with all content from the original release. Among the included DLC, it names:
Rank #2
- FINAL FANTASY TACTICS –The Ivalice Chronicles– Amazon Exclusive Edition includes a double-sided poster.
- Combat - Lead your party in exhilarating encounters where strategic positioning and forward planning determine the outcome. Use the varied terrain of 3D battlefields to your advantage, skillfully manipulate the turn order, and victory will be yours for the taking.
- Character Growth and Customization - Combine a wide variety of jobs and abilities to craft your very own strategies. As your party members grow, they will gain access to more jobs, each with its own unique abilities. Once learned, abilities can be used even after changing to another job. With over 20 jobs to master—including white mage, black mage, dragoon, and many others from the FINAL FANTASY series—and hundreds of abilities to learn, you have the freedom to experiment and discover the combinations that best suit your party. Chocobos and other creatures can also be tamed and led into battle.
- Two Versions: Enhanced and Classic - With improved graphics, fully voiced dialogue, and refined gameplay, the enhanced version provides the perfect way to immerse yourself in the world of Ivalice. Along with the fine-tuning of several features and battle mechanics, the inclusion of the more accessible "Squire" difficulty setting makes the enhanced version an excellent starting point for first-time players. The classic version unites the graphics and gameplay of the original 1997 version with the renowned War of the Lions translation for a unique way to experience this beloved title.
- If you own the Nintendo Switch software in physical format, you can play the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by downloading only the Upgrade Pack free of charge.
- Six bonus outfits for Lara
- Eight online multiplayer maps
- Four multiplayer characters
These are inclusions in the purchase. They do not show whether online matchmaking is active or how many players are in multiplayer today, and the announcement does not address either point.

The physical Switch 2 edition
Nintendo Life reported on July 1, 2026 that Limited Run Games had announced physical Switch 2 editions, with preorders set to open on July 2, 2026. The two editions and their reported prices were:
| Edition | Reported price | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $49.99 | Game and booklet |
| Collector’s | $79.99 | Game, soundtrack CD, steelcase, map of Yamatai, and pry axe keychain |
These figures come from the July 2026 announcement report, not from a current store listing. The preorder window opened on the date given in that report and is now past, so stock, price, and seller availability need to be checked directly with Limited Run Games before buying. Only the announced contents are confirmed here.

Legacy of Atlantis is a separate release
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a different game with a February 12, 2027 release date, according to the official Tomb Raider site. Its Switch 2 version is a digital download, and the site says a collector’s edition will be sold through physical retailers. It is worth knowing as franchise news, but it is not the same product as Definitive Edition and does not replace it.
What the available sources do not cover
The announcements and store listings do not include performance data. They do not state frame rates, resolution, load times, or how the Switch 2 version compares visually with the Switch version, so this article makes no claims on those points. No sales figures or independent benchmarks were identified for this release.
