Google’s Doodle archive is the best place to find its playable games, but the official pages do not guarantee that every old Doodle will still work on every device or in every region. This curated list covers seven distinct games and editions documented by Google—not an official ranking—and spans maze action, sports, puzzles, and music-making.

Where to find Google Doodle games

Start with Google’s Doodles archive and history page, then open an individual game’s Doodle page. Google says it made its first Doodle in 1998; its first playable game Doodle was PAC-MAN, launched May 21, 2010. The archive is a discovery route, not a promise of current compatibility: a historic game page does not establish that the experience will run in every country, browser, or device.

Seven Google Doodle games worth playing

This is an editorial selection based on the documented mechanics and variety of each game. The comparisons—such as quick session versus longer exploration, action versus creativity, and solo versus team play—are ways to choose what may suit you, not ratings published by Google.

1. PAC-MAN (2010): the classic maze

Google describes its May 21, 2010 PAC-MAN Doodle as its first playable game Doodle. It retained the original game’s logic, graphics, sounds, and distinct ghost personalities. An Easter egg adds a second player, controlled with WASD keys, alongside the first player. That makes this the clearest pick for a recognizable arcade-style maze and a notable milestone in Google’s playable Doodles. Google’s PAC-MAN Doodle page documents the design and controls.

2. Doodle Champion Island Games (2021): the biggest adventure

For a deeper, more exploratory experience, join Lucky, a calico cat athlete, on an island of seven sports mini-games. The adventure adds legendary opponents, side quests, and seven collectible scrolls, giving it more to pursue than a single quick challenge. Google created it with Tokyo-based animation studio STUDIO 4°C. Google’s history page calls it the largest multiplayer Doodle ever; that is a description of the project, not evidence of current player numbers. Read Google’s Champion Island page for its game features.

3. Cricket Doodle (2017): a quick tap-to-swing match

In this Champions Trophy-themed game, crickets face snails in a whimsical cricket match. Tap or click to swing, making it a straightforward choice when you want a short sports challenge rather than a longer quest. Google said it kept the file small for people on slower mobile networks and called it its smallest interactive Doodle at the time; that is a dated design claim, not a current technical comparison. Google’s 2017 cricket Doodle page describes the game.

4. Garden Gnomes (2018): launch, land, and plant

Garden Gnomes turns a trebuchet launch into a light physics-and-distance game: send a clay gnome flying, plant flowers, and earn points based on how far it travels. You can choose among six gnomes, each with different shape, weight, and bounciness, which gives the repeat-launch loop some variation. Google’s Garden Gnomes page explains the choices and scoring.

5. Kids Coding / Coding for Carrots (2017): solve with blocks

This six-level puzzle introduces block-based coding by asking players to snap together commands that guide a furry character to carrots. The blocks are based on Scratch, and Google credits collaboration among its Doodle team, Blockly team, and MIT Scratch researchers. It is a good fit for readers who prefer planning a sequence of actions over timing a swing or dodging a ghost. Champika Fernando, Director of Communications for the Scratch Team, wrote: “My hope is that people will find this first experience appealing and engaging, and they’ll be encouraged to go further.” Google’s Kids Coding page includes the game details and Fernando’s contribution.

6. Bach (2019): compose a tiny melody

The Bach Doodle is a music toy, not a full music-production tool. Compose a two-measure melody and the game uses machine learning to harmonize it in Bach’s style. A hidden Easter egg combines Bach with 1980s rock. Google called it its first AI-powered Doodle when it launched on March 21, 2019. Choose this one for creative experimentation rather than a conventional win-or-lose challenge. Google’s Bach Doodle page describes the composition experience.

7. PAC-MAN: Halloween 2025 Edition: familiar maze, new haunted houses

This later PAC-MAN edition celebrates the original’s 45th anniversary with eight levels, including four haunted-house mazes themed around the ghosts. It is a distinct variation to seek out if you want the familiar maze premise with themed layouts, rather than a separate unrelated entry in a top-ten list. Google launched it on October 30, 2025. Google’s Halloween 2025 edition page gives the level details.

Can you still play old Google Doodle games?

Google’s archive and the individual Doodle pages are the official places to look, but their historical descriptions do not establish that every game remains playable for every visitor. Open the game page on the device you plan to use and check whether the experience loads and responds. Availability and compatibility may change; the cited pages do not promise universal access.
