The best PS4 racing game depends on what you want to drive: Gran Turismo 7 is the broad simulation pick, while Need for Speed Heat is a better fit for open-world street racing. This list spans sims, rally, arcade pursuits and kart racing rather than pretending one style suits everyone.
Top 10 PS4 racing games
This is a curated selection, not a universal score-based ranking. The order reflects a range of play styles: realistic handling, arcade action, open-world freedom, challenge and multiplayer. Gran Turismo 7 — best all-around simulation
Choose GT7 for circuit racing, a broad campaign and room to learn the craft. PlayStation describes its GT Campaign, Championships, Driving School, adjustable car tuning, split-screen and online competition. Its official guide lists over 420 cars; that is the game’s stated collection size, not a measure of licensed or currently usable cars in every mode.
-
Need for Speed Heat — best open-world street racer
Heat offers a different rhythm from a circuit simulator: sanctioned events take place by day, while illegal street races and police pressure shape the night. It also features car customization in an open world. Push Square notes technical and graphical hiccups, so players prioritizing polish may want to weigh that trade-off.

-
DiRT Rally 2.0 — best for a demanding rally challenge
Pick DiRT Rally 2.0 if you want rally-focused driving that asks for control and concentration, rather than forgiving arcade handling. It is the challenge-oriented option here; it is not the best fit for someone looking for an easy, casual race.
-
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered — best arcade pursuit racer
This is the cops-versus-racers choice, built around high-speed driving, drifts, crash cameras and pursuit tools. Its events can feel repetitive, and its open world may seem barren, so its strongest appeal is the pursuit format rather than exploring a richly populated setting.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled — best for chaotic local kart races
Nitro-Fueled brings Crash’s kart-racing style to remastered visuals, vehicles and tracks. PlayStation describes offline racing for one to four players, including split-screen, making it a natural choice for same-room competition.
-

-
F1 24 — best licensed Formula racing option
F1 24 is the pick for readers seeking official Formula racing on PS4. The current PlayStation racing guide features the newer F1 25, but does not individually verify F1 24’s PS4 product listing; check the exact edition and platform on the store or with a retailer before purchase.

DiRT 4 — best approachable off-road alternative
DiRT 4 balances a more accessible off-road experience with elements of the harder-edged DiRT Rally style, making it a useful middle ground. Push Square reports that it has been delisted, so treat it as a used-copy option and check whether a legitimate copy is available where you live.
-
Team Sonic Racing — best team-focused kart racer
Team Sonic Racing emphasizes cooperation between racers, while still working as a standard kart racer. If you plan to play multiplayer, check the current mode and service status for the particular edition before buying.

What happened to Gran Turismo Sport?
Gran Turismo Sport is now a legacy option rather than a current online recommendation. According to the official Gran Turismo Sport product page, PlayStation Store sales ended on November 30, 2023, and online services ended on January 31, 2024. The page lists Blu-ray Disc and download versions, but the digital sales and online service have been discontinued; a physical copy may be relevant only if you are comfortable with those limits.
