The commands below come from current CS2 references, so treat them as a verified starting point rather than a complete list of fifty. Confirm each command in your own build before relying on it.
Open the developer console in CS2
The console is hidden until you enable it. Valve’s support page gives the setup path for Steam games:
- Open CS2 and go to Settings.
- Select Game.
- Set Enable Developer Console (~) to Yes.
- Press the tilde key (
~) in game to open the console.
On English/US keyboard layouts the tilde key opens the console. Other layouts may place it on a different key, so check which key your layout uses if nothing appears. Source: Valve / Steam Support, “Developer Console in Valve games”.
How CS2 commands are invoked and restricted
The CS2 Reference describes commands as named actions that can be run three ways: typed into the console, assigned to a key with bind, or placed in a config file and run with exec. Each command carries an access flag. Commands marked with the cheat flag require sv_cheats 1. That is why some commands work in offline practice or on a private server you control but not in ordinary matchmaking.

Do not assume every command needs cheats. The flag is set per command, and some entries have none. Check the flag for each command you plan to use. The CS2 Reference, “Commands” (build 25218825, dated 2026-09-09) lists the flag model and a versioned command list.
Useful commands by task
Performance and diagnostics
cl_showfpsdisplays a frame-rate counter on screen. PCGamesN’s CS2 command guide (updated March 3, 2026) lists it as a display option. It shows a number; it does not change your performance.fps_maxis described as a frame-rate limit in a Steam Community guide. That guide is community-maintained, not an official Valve source, so confirm the syntax and availability in the in-game console or the CS2 Reference before using it. Steam Community guide.
None of the sources establish that any of these commands improves frame rate, reduces latency or affects results. Use them to measure or limit, not as a fix.

Binds and config files
bindassigns a key to a command. It is the standard way to make a command repeatable without typing it.execruns a config file. PCGamesN explains that an autoexec config can run commands at startup, which helps keep a preferred setup across computers.
Binds and config files are the only entries in this group whose persistence the sources describe directly. Keep a single config file for your settings so changes are easy to track.
HUD and interface
cl_drawhudandcl_draw_only_deathnoticeshide HUD elements. PCGamesN lists them as presentation options.
Removing HUD information can make ordinary play harder, because you lose the readouts the interface normally provides. Use these only for screenshots, recording or a setup you have tested.

These appear as examples in PCGamesN’s guide. They are not guaranteed to work in every server context, and the flag for each should be checked before you use it. Use them in offline practice or on a server you run. Do not expect them to work in matchmaking.
Comparison table
The table compares the commands above on the factors that matter when you choose one. “Not stated” means the reviewed sources do not establish that value, so check it in-game or in the CS2 Reference before relying on the command.

How many commands does CS2 have?
Two published counts are often quoted, and they measure different things:
- The CS2 Reference reports about 1,132 commands for build 25218825, dated 2026-09-09.
- CSbePRO’s database lists 2,768 console entries for build 1.41.7.6, including 680 executable commands and 2,088 console variables. Its page was accessed in 2026.
The builds and counting methods differ, so the two numbers cannot be compared directly. Neither is a count of “useful” commands. See the CSbePRO command database for filters by topic and cheat requirement.

Verify a command before you use it
- Check the exact spelling and syntax in the in-game console or the CS2 Reference.
- Confirm whether the command carries the cheat flag, and whether
sv_cheats 1is needed. - Test cheat-flagged commands only in offline practice or on a private server you control.
- Remove commands that no longer work after a game update, because availability and defaults can change with each build.
- Keep a short config file so you can see and reverse every change you have made.
Commands that change match, server or practice behavior should be used with the same care as any other setting. If a command is unfamiliar, look it up before you run it.
For most players, the most useful commands are the display, binding and config options. Movement and ammunition commands belong only in practice environments, and every command should be checked against the current build before use.
