Tormented Souls 2 is worth considering if you want deliberate exploration, layered environmental puzzles and old-school survival-horror tension. In MeriStation’s 2025 review, Roberto Barragán awarded it 8.2/10, praising its atmosphere, level design and puzzles while noting that tough, crowded fights can disrupt the pace and that the story is somewhat predictable. It is a positive verdict, but one reviewer’s assessment—not a cross-outlet consensus.
What kind of horror game is Tormented Souls 2?
Developed by Dual Effect and published by PQube, Tormented Souls 2 is a single-player survival-horror sequel starring Caroline Walker. She travels with her sister Anna to Villa Hess in southern Chile after Anna’s disturbing visions and drawings lead them there. MeriStation places the story several months after the first game’s events: the sequel connects to its predecessor, but Barragán says newcomers can follow it independently. MeriStation’s review and the official Steam listing describe its setup and mechanics.
The basic rhythm is to explore unsettling locations, gather and combine objects, interpret clues, and fight with improvised weapons. A supernatural ability lets Caroline switch realities and use changes to the past to reshape the present or open alternate routes. Steam describes the game as classic fixed-camera survival horror, with limited saves and tank controls in its classic mode; it also lists an assisted mode for a more casual experience. Those control and save conventions are part of the intended style, and may be a deciding factor if you prefer more modern movement or frequent saves.
What MeriStation’s review praises
Atmosphere and environments
Barragán’s strongest praise is for the horror atmosphere and detailed settings. The locations give exploration a sense of place, while the fixed-camera presentation supports the game’s traditional survival-horror approach. If you enjoy gradually learning a threatening environment rather than moving through a straightforward action level, this is a central part of the appeal.

Exploration and puzzles
Barragán also highlights level design, backtracking and puzzles that ask players to connect clues and objects across locations. The appeal is less about repeatedly finding a key for a nearby door and more about interpreting documents and working out how pieces fit together. The reality-switching mechanic adds another layer: changing what happened in one version of a place can affect the route available in another.
That design rewards close attention and memory. Players who like retracing a route with new information or testing how an item relates to an earlier clue are more likely to enjoy the game than those looking for constant forward momentum.

What may frustrate players
Combat can interrupt the exploration
Barragán says the combat system works overall, but he flags durable enemies and groups of enemies in narrow spaces as a source of uncomfortable encounters. Those fights can interrupt the pacing, especially in a game whose appeal otherwise rests on measured exploration and puzzle-solving. This is a specific criticism in his review, not evidence that every encounter is poorly balanced.
The story is engaging but predictable
Barragán finds the story engaging, while describing it as somewhat predictable despite its horror moments. The premise and atmosphere may still carry the experience for genre fans, but players who prioritize surprising plot turns should temper expectations.
Is Tormented Souls 2 worth playing?
Barragán’s 8.2/10 verdict makes the game an appealing pick for survival-horror veterans who value atmosphere, interconnected exploration and puzzles over smooth, uninterrupted combat. Its traditional controls and save approach are also a deliberate stylistic choice, not a universal fit. If you are curious about the series but have not played the first game, MeriStation says the sequel can be followed on its own, though its story remains connected to the original.
Steam’s storefront snapshot at access in 2026 showed 88% positive from 1,691 all-time user reviews and 92% positive from 40 reviews in the preceding 30 days. These are changing user-review aggregates, not critic scores; they should be read separately from MeriStation’s single-review rating. Steam’s listing displays the base game and a Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes two Caroline outfits, as well as the original soundtrack as separate downloadable content.
