The first Light-or-Dark decision shapes the later classes available to her, so decide based on your party and preferred role before making that change.
What does Riesz’s class change unlock?
Class changes shift a character’s combat role and grant new strengths and abilities. For Riesz, the first class change leads into either a Light or Dark branch, and that choice determines which later classes she can reach. A secondary class-change guide says the first change becomes available at level 18 and that the branch choice has no ordinary way back; Square Enix’s official pages do not confirm that specific threshold or lock-in, so treat those details as guide-based advice rather than an official rule.

The remake also has Class 4, which PlayStation describes as available after completing the story. Square Enix’s class-design article identifies Valkyrie as Riesz’s second Light class. It also notes that some of her later classes draw on Norse mythology: Francis Santos, Marketing Director for Square Enix North America, said, “For Riesz, she has many classes based on Norse mythology, such as her third classes, Vanadis and Fenrir Knight.”
Should you choose Light or Dark for Riesz?
Think about what the party needs more: beneficial effects for allies or effects that weaken enemies. RPG Site’s class guide frames Riesz’s branches around support and discusses options such as Star Lancer, Dragon Master, and Fenrir Knight. These are strategic characterizations, not official rankings or proof that one build performs better in every party.

- Revamped 3D graphics: Trials of Mana is full 3D remake of the third game in the Mana series, originally released in Japan as Seiken Densetsu 3
- Pick your party: Players can choose their favorite protagonist and 2 companions from 6 different characters; The story will play out in different ways depending on the combination of the protagonist and companions in the party
- Class changing: Raise your level and become the top level classes; Character's appearance and the magic and special attacks that they can learn will change depending on which class is selected and the light/dark alignment
| Choice | What to prioritize | When it may suit your party |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Party support and beneficial effects | Consider it if Riesz is your main source of team utility or you want to build around the Light classes, including Valkyrie. |
| Dark | Weakening enemies and the Dark class options | Consider it if your party already has enough support and you want Riesz to contribute through the Dark branch’s debuff-oriented role. |
This is a role-based comparison, not a controlled performance test. The available guides do not establish comparative damage, party-wide performance, or a single optimal path.
How to choose for your party
- Check who already provides support. If another party member reliably covers beneficial effects, Riesz can fill a different role; if not, a support-focused path may add more to your team.
- Decide what you want Riesz doing in combat. Choose based on whether you prefer her to emphasize team utility or to help weaken enemies, rather than on a universal “best class” claim.
- Consider the later classes you want. The initial Light or Dark choice controls the later options available, so look at the branch’s class names and roles before committing.
- Make the first class change deliberately. The secondary class-change reference describes the branch choice as effectively irreversible through ordinary means. If you are following that guide, it places the first change at level 18; verify the requirement in your game if timing matters.
Who is Riesz?
Square Enix describes Riesz as the young princess of Laurent and captain of its Amazon guard, devoted to protecting her family and kingdom. Her appearance, magic, and special attacks vary with her class and Light-or-Dark alignment. Trials of Mana is Square Enix’s 3D remake of the 1995 RPG Seiken Densetsu 3; the remake includes updated graphics, voice acting, a remastered soundtrack, an additional post-ending episode, and a class-and-ability system.
