TramSim Vienna is a PC tram-driving simulation in which you take the controls of a Flexity tram on Tramline 1 through central Vienna. Steam lists it as a single-player casual simulation released on October 29, 2020. The name “TramSim” covers more than one game: Vienna and Munich are separate titles with separate store pages, so check which one a listing refers to before you buy.
What TramSim Vienna is
The game was developed by ViewApp and published by Aerosoft. Aerosoft states that its store edition is identical to TramSim Vienna, so the publisher’s page and the Steam release describe the same game rather than two versions with different content. Steam’s listing gives the release date as October 29, 2020; the publisher’s product page is undated.
How the game plays
The game recreates the job of a tram driver. Aerosoft describes AI-controlled pedestrians, passengers and cars sharing the streets with you, and the game’s own manual frames the task as bringing passengers to their destinations, keeping to the timetable and observing traffic rules. The manual, credited to Aerosoft GmbH and dated 2020 with no individual author named, puts it this way:
“Immerse yourself in the life of a tram driver and experience up close what it’s like to maneuver a 40-ton tram down the streets of a major city. Bring passengers to their destinations, keep to the timetable, and observe the traffic regulations.”

Tram Simulator
- Next-level tram simulation with photo-realistic graphics, highly detailed buildings, authentic vehicle dynamics and many functions
- Various game modes: open world, line operation with timetable, level ranking, tram challenges
- Advanced AI for pedestrians, passengers and cars
- Controls with game controller, keyboard or your own construction from joystick emulators possible
Open-world mode
Open-world mode lets you drive the route without a fixed service pattern. It suits players who want to learn the tram’s handling and the street layout before attempting timetabled work.
Scheduled line service
In scheduled service you run the line to a timetable and carry passengers. This is the closest the game comes to the real job, and it is where the timetable and traffic-rule elements of the manual’s description apply.

The game includes ranking and tram challenges as structured goals. The publisher’s material does not describe how scoring works, so expect to learn the scoring rules in play rather than from the product page.

The Vienna route and vehicle
The Vienna edition recreates Tramline 1 and models the Flexity tram’s vehicle dynamics, sounds and announcements. Both the publisher and Steam describe the route network and map size, but with slightly different figures, so the table below shows each source separately. These are publisher-reported dimensions, not independently measured game-world figures.
| Item | Aerosoft (product page, undated) | Steam (store description, undated) |
|---|---|---|
| Map size | About 4 km² | Almost 4,000,000 m² (about 4 km²) |
| Tram network represented | More than 25 km | Almost 25 km |
| Vehicle | Flexity tram | Not stated in the Steam description |
| Route | Tramline 1 through a densely built-up city centre | Vienna route; Tramline 1 not named in the Steam description |
Landmarks named on the publisher and Steam pages include the Ringstrasse, the Hundertwasserhaus, the Urania observatory, the Parliament building and the Vienna State Opera. These help you orient yourself on the route, especially in open-world mode.

Vienna, Munich and the bundle
Steam lists TramSim Vienna and TramSim Munich as separate games, and the bundle is sold as a package of both titles plus three add-ons. Munich is not a Vienna expansion. Sources reviewed for this article give far less detail on Munich than on Vienna, so this guide does not describe its route, vehicles or features.
| Product | What it is | Contents as listed | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| TramSim Vienna | Standalone game | Vienna route, Flexity tram, open-world and scheduled service | Steam release October 29, 2020; publisher says the store edition is identical |
| TramSim Munich | Separate standalone game | Not described in this guide | Steam lists it as its own title, not a Vienna expansion |
| Vienna & Munich bundle | Bundle on Steam | Both games, Tram-Depot Vienna, Type E1 and Type ULF DLC | Bundle contents as shown on Steam; confirm before buying |
| Vienna add-ons | DLC listed on the Vienna page | Tram-Depot Vienna, Type E1, Type ULF | Listed separately from the bundle |
If you only want the Vienna route, the Vienna game is the relevant purchase. The bundle makes sense only if you want Munich as well as the three add-ons.

Controls and input
The publisher lists three input methods:

Steam’s beginner mode and advanced control options are the main settings to review before you start. No specific controller or joystick model has been tested or recommended for this game, so choose hardware based on your own PC setup and check it works with the game’s input options on the live store page.
PC requirements and pre-purchase checks
The publisher’s product page lists the following requirements. The operating-system entry may be out of date, so check the live Steam system requirements before buying.
| Component | Listed on the publisher’s page |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 8 / 10 |
| Processor | Quad-core, 2.6 GHz |
| Memory | 6 GB or 16 GB RAM (both figures are listed; confirm which applies to minimum and which to recommended on the live Steam page) |
| Graphics | 4 GB graphics card |
| Storage | 30 GB |
| Online requirements | Internet connection and Steam account |
Before buying, check the following:
- Compare your Windows version with the live Steam requirements. Windows 8 is long out of Microsoft support, so treat the listed operating system as a starting point, not a guarantee.
- Confirm the exact bundle contents on the Steam page, since bundle composition can change.
- Check the current price on the store page. Prices and promotions change.
- Confirm which edition you are buying, Steam or a physical copy, using the section below.
Physical copy versus Steam
The official manual includes instructions for installing from a DVD using Steam and an activation code, so a boxed edition has existed. Aerosoft’s current product page describes a Steam version. We did not establish whether a DVD edition is currently sold through retailers, so check the listing carefully before assuming a boxed copy is available.
