Insider Gaming reported on December 2, 2025, that at least a dozen people had recently left Eidos-Montréal and that further staff reductions were forecast after projects wrapped. Those December details were based on employee posts and sources, not a studio announcement. On March 30, 2026, Eidos-Montréal officially confirmed a separate workforce reduction affecting 124 employees and announced that Head of Studio David Anfossi was leaving.
What was reported in December 2025
Insider Gaming said former employees had recently posted about leaving the Montréal studio, describing at least a dozen people as looking for work. The article called this the second known wave of cuts in 2025, following 75 job losses in March. These December figures were reported by the outlet, not confirmed by Eidos-Montréal in a public statement at the time. Insider Gaming’s December 2 report said it had sought comment from Eidos-Montréal and parent company Embracer but had not received a response by publication.
Insider Gaming quoted gameplay director Samuel Daher’s post: “Was working at Eidos, loved it and would have stayed, but times are difficult.” The article also cited multiple sources for its account of the studio’s project situation and its forecast of further cuts.
What the December report said about projects and future cuts
According to Insider Gaming’s sources, most of Eidos-Montréal’s projects had been cancelled, with the studio focused on co-development work with Microsoft and Xbox on Grounded 2 and Fable. The article also said an internal project started in 2019 was unlikely to recoup its costs. Sources quoted by the outlet said additional reductions were forecast after the remaining projects wrapped.

Those claims—including the cancellations, the internal project’s financial outlook and the forecast of future cuts—were source-based reporting, not details confirmed by the studio in the December article. PC Gamer’s December 4 follow-up also cited former employees and Insider Gaming, and said Eidos and Embracer had not confirmed the layoffs or responded to its request for comment.
What Eidos-Montréal officially confirmed in March 2026
On March 30, 2026, Eidos-Montréal announced that a workforce reduction affected 124 employees. The studio attributed it to changing project needs across production and support teams, saying: “The reduction in workforce affecting 124 employees is a result of changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams.” It added: “Today is a difficult day for our studio and reflects the need to adapt and concentrate efforts where Eidos-Montréal can be most effective.” The studio’s official statement also announced that it and longtime Head of Studio David Anfossi were parting ways, with a transition plan underway. PC Gamer covered the announcement the same day.

The studio’s March explanation was changing project needs; its statement did not tie the reduction to the December report’s claims about cancelled projects or the 2019 project.
What the numbers do—and do not—show
- At least a dozen: Insider Gaming’s reported minimum for people looking for work in December 2025; not a studio-confirmed headcount.
- 75: The number of employees Insider Gaming said were let go in the earlier March 2025 wave.
- 124: Employees affected by the March 2026 workforce reduction, according to Eidos-Montréal’s official statement.
These are counts tied to separate reported or confirmed events, not percentages of the studio workforce. The available statements do not provide a reliable workforce total for calculating what share of employees was affected.
