To complete the Troubadours side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, help George and Michael at Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn get a lute, replace its damaged strings with ones made by hunter Vostatek, settle their debt to the innkeeper, then report back to the musicians. You can obtain sheep guts by hunting or buying them from the Troskowitz butcher, and settle the debt either by payment or chores.
How to start Troubadours
Go to Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn and look for George and Michael. One walkthrough reports that the main quest Wedding Crashers must have started and that both men need to be sitting at a table; another places the side quest after the prologue and Laboratores. Since guides differ on progression timing, check the inn after Wedding Crashers has begun and speak with the pair if they are there. The inn is also where you will resolve their debt.

Get a lute and return it to the musicians
George and Michael need a lute. A guide identifies a carpenter’s home in Troskowitz as one place to find one, but the exact acquisition route can depend on dialogue and player choices. Do not assume theft is the only way to obtain it. Once you have a lute, take it back to the pair at the inn.
After you return it, a drunk damages the instrument. The musicians then need replacement strings, so speak with Vostatek, the hunter, to learn what he needs to make them.

Get sheep guts for Vostatek’s strings
Vostatek asks for sheep guts. A walkthrough reports two ways to get them:
- Hunt sheep and collect the guts.
- Buy the guts from the butcher in Troskowitz. The guide describes the price as low, but that is not a guaranteed current price.
Bring the guts to Vostatek. After he makes the strings, take them back to George and Michael.
Settle the inn debt
Speak with the innkeeper at Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn. Guides describe two approaches: pay what is owed or work it off. The sources do not establish a universal payment amount or dialogue-check threshold, so use the amount and options presented in your game.
Pay the innkeeper
Choose the payment option if it is available and you want to settle the debt directly. One guide reports a 100-groschen amount before haggling; treat that as a guide-specific figure, not a fixed price for every playthrough.

Complete the chores
If you choose to work off the debt, the reported tasks are carrying eight sacks to the barn and digging out the latrine. A spade is reported near the outhouse or privy. Guides differ on the precise sack location, so follow the in-game objective markers if their descriptions do not match what you see.

Once the innkeeper accepts the debt as settled, return to George and Michael to complete Troubadours. One guide describes a ballad as the story’s thank-you, while another lists no reward. The sources do not establish a guaranteed item or currency payout.
Which options should you choose?
| Decision | Option | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Get sheep guts | Hunt sheep | Lets you obtain the material through hunting rather than buying it. |
| Get sheep guts | Buy from the Troskowitz butcher | Avoids hunting but requires an in-game purchase; the exact price is not reliably established. |
| Settle the debt | Pay | Direct route if the payment option is available; the amount may depend on dialogue or haggling. |
| Settle the debt | Do chores | Requires carrying eight sacks and digging out the latrine instead of paying directly. |
These routes are described in secondary walkthroughs rather than official, patch-specific game documentation, and the guides do not agree on every progression or reward detail. Use the journal and current dialogue options to resolve differences in your playthrough.
