March is often softer for Twitch on a daily-viewing basis, but it is not true that every measure of viewership always falls. The distinction matters: a month can accumulate more total watch hours than February simply because March has more days, even as its average daily viewing or average viewers decline.
What the March data shows
StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg reporting described March as a recurring weaker month for Twitch daily hours watched from 2022 through 2025. In the 2025 comparison, daily hours watched were 54 million in March, versus 57 million in both January and February, according to figures reported by GamesBeat.
That daily-hours comparison does not mean March had fewer total hours than February. Twitch accumulated 1.68 billion watch hours in March 2025, compared with 1.59 billion in February. GamesBeat reported that March’s higher total likely reflected its extra calendar days. The two figures describe different measures and are not contradictory.
How March compares with February and January
The pattern varies with the metric and the year. In 2024, Rainmaker.gg figures reported by GamesBeat put March at 1.777 billion total hours watched, below January’s 1.902 billion but above February’s 1.738 billion. So March was weaker than January in that comparison, but not February.

March 2026 offers another example of why a blanket “slump” label can mislead. SullyGnome’s all-language snapshot showed approximately 1.5 billion total watch hours, up 5.4% from February, while average viewers were approximately 2.0 million, down 4.8%. Those are rounded tracker figures, not official Twitch measurements. Separately, Streams Charts reported that watch hours rose 5.68% from February, attributing much of the increase to the difference in month length.
| Comparison | Reported measure | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| March 2025 vs. January and February 2025 | 54 million daily hours in March; 57 million in each of January and February (StreamElements/Rainmaker.gg, reported by GamesBeat) | Daily viewing was lower in March. |
| March 2025 vs. February 2025 | 1.68 billion total hours in March; 1.59 billion in February (StreamElements/Rainmaker.gg, reported by GamesBeat) | March’s total was higher, likely in part because it has more days. |

| March 2026 vs. February 2026 | Approximately 1.5 billion total hours, up 5.4%, and approximately 2.0 million average viewers, down 4.8% (SullyGnome, all languages; rounded snapshot) | Total hours and average viewers moved in opposite directions. |
| March 2026 vs. February 2026 | Watch hours up 5.68% (Streams Charts) | The report attributed much of the increase to March’s greater number of days. |
Why total hours can rise while viewership softens
Total monthly hours add together viewing across every day in a month. March has 31 days; February has 28 days in a common year and 29 in a leap year. A longer month can therefore produce a larger total even if average daily watch time is lower. Average viewers and daily hours offer different ways to examine whether viewing is actually stronger on a typical day.

When comparing tracker reports, check the metric, the comparison month, and the data scope. For example, SullyGnome’s long-term historical page is filtered to English-language channels, while the March 2026 snapshot cited above covers all languages. Its long-term statistics page also displays UTC and its charts can change over time. Independent trackers may use different scopes or methods, so their totals should not be combined as if they formed one perfectly harmonized series.

The reported figures show recurring comparisons, not proof that the season itself causes viewing to fall. Esports events and other changes can alter a month’s results. StreamElements CEO Or Perry cautioned that “major esports events and the time of year can make certain months look stronger or weaker on paper,” and that a peak or dip can be misread without considering those factors, in a GamesBeat report.

How to judge a claim that Twitch is in a March slump
- Identify the metric: total monthly hours, daily hours, and average viewers answer different questions.
- Check the comparison: March can be below January yet above February, as the 2024 totals show.
- Account for month length: March has more calendar days than February, which can lift its total hours.
- Check scope and source: note whether a tracker covers all languages or a language-filtered set of channels, and avoid treating different trackers as interchangeable.
- Look for context: major esports events or other changes may affect viewing, and the figures alone do not establish a seasonal cause.
