Fallout 76’s Slasher Quest Has Reports of a Missing-Page Progression Bug

Some Fallout 76 players have reported losing a page or article clipping needed to continue part of The Slasher storyline, sometimes after a crash, disconnect, server change, or logout. A player post reproducing a Bethesda Support response says Power Armor may be associated with the issue and relays a suggested workaround. The available evidence does not show that the October 1 patch caused or fixed the problem, or that it affects every player.

What players are reporting

In a September 16 post titled “Potential Bug in the Slasher Quest,” a player said they no longer had the children’s-book page in their inventory after logging out. The post reproduces a response attributed to Bethesda Support, dated September 18, saying Bethesda was “investigating reports” that “A page torn from a children’s book” or related article clippings disappeared after a crash, disconnect, server change, or logout. The response also raised a possible association with wearing Power Armor. This is secondhand support text reproduced in a player post, not a public Bethesda incident notice; it does not establish Power Armor as the cause or quantify how many players are affected. Read the player report and reproduced response.

Workaround relayed from Bethesda Support

The reproduced response recommends this sequence:

  1. Exit Power Armor.
  2. Quit Fallout 76 completely.
  3. Relaunch the game and resume the quest.

The player who posted the response said these steps worked for them. That is one reported successful attempt, not a verified fix for all players. If the page remains missing, the cited post does not provide another confirmed recovery method.

Did the October 1 patch cause the bug?

That is not established by the available reports. Bethesda’s October 1 update notes, reproduced in a community discussion, emphasize stability changes, crash fixes on PlayStation and Xbox, and an Xbox networking fix. They do not identify the missing-page issue as either a newly introduced bug or a fix. See the October 1 update-notes discussion.

The Slasher storyline launched on September 15, 2026. Bethesda’s announcement introduced it as a new kind of Fallout 76 update, and its release notes say to check in for new parts of the story over time. That staged release context does not, by itself, show that the reported missing page is a widespread or game-breaking failure. Bethesda’s Slasher announcement · The Slasher release notes.

A separate grave-map report

The October 1 discussion includes a different player report: one person said they had to change servers before a Slasher grave-map quest would start. That account does not establish how common the issue is, whether it is related to the missing-page reports, or whether server-hopping is a general solution. Treat the two reports as distinct problems unless Bethesda confirms a connection.
