No. The available record shows a privacy complaint filed against Ubisoft, not a $105 million fine. On 24 April 2025, digital-rights group NOYB said it complained to Austria’s data protection authority over alleged data collection tied to some single-player game sessions. The €92 million figure—rendered as approximately $105 million—was a possible maximum penalty NOYB said the authority could impose.
What did NOYB allege?
NOYB’s complaint names Ubisoft Entertainment SA as the respondent and concerns Article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which governs the legal basis for processing personal data. NOYB alleges that some PC players had to connect to the internet and sign in to a Ubisoft account to launch single-player games, including games without online features.
According to NOYB, Ubisoft collected information about play activity, including when a player started a game, how long they played, and when they closed it. NOYB also says the complainant asked why an internet connection was required for single-player play and did not receive an explanation, and that the game offered an offline option. These are claims by NOYB on behalf of a redacted complainant, not findings by a regulator or court. NOYB’s announcement and public complaint describe the allegations.
What does the $105 million figure mean?
NOYB asked Austria’s data protection authority, the Datenschutzbehörde (DSB), to find that Ubisoft processed the complainant’s personal data without a valid legal basis, require deletion of personal information processed without one, and stop further unlawful processing. It also asked the authority to consider an administrative fine.

NOYB said a fine could be as high as €92 million, linking that possible maximum to its statement that Ubisoft’s turnover exceeded €2 billion. Cybernews described the amount as approximately $105 million. Neither figure is an imposed penalty or a regulator’s calculation; the euro amount is NOYB’s proposed possible ceiling, and the dollar figure is an approximate conversion. Cybernews’ report gives the approximate dollar rendering.
What is the complaint’s status?
NOYB’s case page listed the complaint as pending when checked on 8 October 2026. It identifies Austria’s DSB as the filing authority and France’s CNIL as lead supervisory authority. That status is NOYB’s own case listing; the cited record does not establish a final decision by either authority. NOYB’s C098 case page carries the listing.

Does Ubisoft’s privacy policy resolve the issue?
No. Ubisoft’s privacy policy describes processing associated with gameplay and social features, including purposes such as player safety, security, and service operation. That broader explanation does not determine whether the specific processing alleged in NOYB’s complaint had a valid legal basis. Ubisoft’s January 2026 legal update describes changes to its Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, but does not report an outcome in this proceeding. Ubisoft’s privacy policy and legal updates provide the company’s policy context.
