There is no single canonical or universally best route. For a first playthrough focused on recruiting companions and finding influence opportunities, a useful default is Nar Shaddaa → Dxun / Onderon Part One → Dantooine → Onderon Part Two → Korriban → Ravager → Malachor V.
Treat that as a recommendation, not a rule: the best order depends on whether you care most about companions, combat and gear progression, story pacing, or speed. Character choices can also affect who joins you and what opportunities arise.
What is the best planet order in KOTOR 2?
For a companion-focused first run, go to Nar Shaddaa after Telos, then make the first trip to Dxun and Onderon, complete Dantooine, return to Onderon, and save Korriban for later. Finish the main journey at the Ravager and Malachor V. The route combines companion and influence opportunities with a clear progression through the planets.
The official strategy-guide introduction says there is no single best path after the opening. The game’s official Steam listing likewise notes that choices affect the Exile, party members, and potential recruits. That flexibility is intentional: use your priorities to choose a route rather than treating any itinerary as canon.
#1 Best Overall
- Multiple Jedi classes to choose from, to start each game with unique Jedi abilities
- Incredible new Force powers, weapons, locations, characters and classes add to the richness of the game
- As your character makes choices through the story, you'll choose the Light or Dark sides of The Force
- Cameo appearances characters in the first game enhance the continuity and story flow
- Special content will be available for The Sith Lords via Xbox Live
Recommended first-playthrough route
- Peragus → Telos: These form the fixed opening sequence.
- Nar Shaddaa: Visit early if you want to pursue several companion and influence opportunities and broaden your party options.
- Dxun / Onderon Part One: Select Onderon to begin this visit; the trip leads to Dxun, where Mandalore can become a recruitable companion.
- Dantooine: Continue here after the first Onderon portion. The route guide points to Jedi-related loot and the Exile’s crystal. If you want the settlement-defense and related side-quest content, finish relevant side quests before triggering the battle.
- Onderon Part Two: Return after completing another planet following your first Onderon visit. In this route, that planet is Dantooine.
- Korriban: Leave it for later if that suits your story pacing.
- Ravager → Malachor V: These are the endgame destinations.
Choose a route for your priority
| Priority | Route or choice | Why it may fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Companions and influence | Nar Shaddaa early, then Dxun / Onderon Part One | The route guide and community recommendations highlight opportunities to recruit companions and build influence. | These are opportunities, not requirements; character choices affect availability and outcomes. |
| Story pacing | Save Korriban for later | It can make a more gradual progression through the other destinations. | There is no mandatory story order that requires this placement. |
| Speedrun resources and combat avoidance | Use the documented Any% Glitchless route below | It is planned around combat avoidance, lightsaber parts, and build-specific equipment timing. | It is a speed-oriented route, not a general first-playthrough recommendation. |
Why speedrunners use a different order
A documented Any% Glitchless route is Peragus → Telos → Korriban → Dantooine → Dxun / Onderon Part One → Nar Shaddaa → Onderon Part Two → Ravager → Malachor V. Its stated goals include avoiding combat before the end of Dantooine, collecting lightsaber parts early, obtaining a stronger weapon before Dxun / Onderon, and delaying Nar Shaddaa until mines and vendor wares better suit the build.
That route is useful as a contrast: “best” changes with the objective. Its early Korriban visit reflects speed and resource planning, not a verdict that casual players should follow the same sequence.

The detailed route guide recommending the companion-focused order was written with the Content Restoration Mod in mind. Its fine-grained advice may not map perfectly to an unmodded game. The broad points are more useful across routes: Peragus and Telos come first, the remaining major destinations offer flexibility, and your priorities determine a sensible order.
Nar Shaddaa’s early placement, in particular, is a route choice supported by guide and community recommendations—not a game rule. Similarly, the recommended gap between the two Onderon portions is a practical itinerary, not a universal prescription for every playthrough.
