If EA SPORTS FC 25 says “Unable to save Personal Settings 1,” start with reversible controller and connection checks; there is no established fix that works for everyone. Before deleting anything, note that deleting the Personal Settings 1 file can erase Skill Game progress and your custom controller layout. The PC and console steps differ, and EA’s in-game corrupt-file procedure specifically tells players to keep that file.
What the error means—and what to protect first
The message points to a problem saving or loading personal settings, but the available guidance does not establish one cause or a guaranteed remedy. Forum titles also use wording such as “failed to load” and “Personal Settings 1 failed to load”; these phrases alone do not identify a different diagnosis.

Do not begin by deleting Personal Settings 1. EA says deleting it can address certain audio or visual problems, but warns that doing so loses Skill Game progress and the custom controller layout. If you later decide to try that deletion, record your controller layout first and be prepared to lose that progress. EA’s corrupt-file instructions treat that file separately from the files they advise deleting.
Try these low-risk checks first
EA community-manager guidance for the error suggests checking controller software and connected devices before removing local data. Try these one at a time so you can tell whether anything changes. The EA forum guidance describes these as troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes.

- Close third-party controller software. Exit controller-mapping or related software, then start FC 25 again.
- Disconnect other USB devices. Leave only essential peripherals connected while testing.
- Connect the controller after launching the game. If you normally use it from the start, try launching FC 25 first and connecting it afterward.
- If the controller uses Bluetooth, test a cable. This is a conditional check for Bluetooth users; it does not mean every player needs a new cable.
PC: check the local settings folder
If the low-risk checks do not help, an EA community manager suggested removing the game’s local settings folder on PC. This is a separate route from EA Help’s in-game corrupt-file procedure; it is forum guidance and may not resolve the error for every player.
- Close FC 25.
- In File Explorer, open
C:Users[Username]AppDataLocalEA SPORTS FC 25, replacing[Username]with your Windows account name. If you cannot seeAppData, enable viewing hidden folders in File Explorer. - Back up relevant data before changing or removing files. Then use the forum-suggested folder-removal step only if you understand what you are deleting.
- Reopen the game and check whether it can save the settings.
One player in a separate EA forum thread reported that deleting this folder worked for them. That is a single anecdotal result, not evidence of a general success rate. Read the forum report.

PlayStation and Xbox: use console-menu options cautiously
EA community-manager guidance suggests deleting previous FC 25 game settings or save data from the console menu and restarting the console. It also suggests restoring licenses on PS5. Console menus and labels vary by platform and software version, so consult the current instructions for your console and inspect the exact selected item before confirming deletion. Do not assume every item labeled as game data is safe to remove.
- Close the game and restart the console as a basic check.
- If you consider deleting prior FC 25 settings or save data, use your console’s current storage or saved-data instructions to identify the file first. Confirm only after verifying that it is the intended item.
- On PS5, license restoration is another suggested check; follow the current PlayStation system instructions for that option.
These console suggestions come from an EA community-manager forum reply. They do not establish that cloud data or Ultimate Team data is always safe in every case.

EA’s in-game corrupt-file procedure is different
EA Help’s official instructions address corrupted files and related symptoms, not a guaranteed fix for this exact save message. In FC 25, the route is Customise > Profile > Delete. EA says to delete the files covered by its procedure while preserving Online Profiles, files with Career in the name, and Personal Settings 1.
