It is a strong fit for players who enjoy deliberate grid-based exploration and party-building; the available review evidence is positive, but it is not enough to establish universal critical consensus.
Is Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi worth playing?
If you like old-school dungeon crawlers where navigating the maze and managing your team are central pleasures, Undernauts is worth considering. Its defining hook is not simply fighting monsters: you are part of the Undernauts, sent into a dangerous labyrinth to search for resources and make routes back to the surface. The ESRB describes the setting as dungeons beneath a fictional Tokyo in 1979, while Nintendo’s publisher-provided description emphasizes using skills and magic items to make exits and survive.

Steam’s user-defined tags identify the game as a first-person, grid-based, party-based RPG with turn-based combat. These tags are a useful indication of its broad style, not a formal specification of every system. The available sources establish the premise and genre, but do not provide independent hands-on testing or enough detail to judge combat balance, pacing, or performance across platforms.
What do reviews say?
Steam’s indexed listing showed 79% positive from 199 user reviews and labeled the result “Mostly Positive” in a snapshot accessed October 8, 2026. This is a changing player-review snapshot, not a critic score; it can shift as more reviews are added.

Damon Trapold of Hey Poor Player praised the engaging exploration and customization, while Matt Sainsbury of Digitally Downloaded highlighted the atmosphere and challenging combat. A.J. Maciejewski of Video Chums called attention to its old-school challenge, distinct dungeons and objectives, shortcuts, and party progression. These are publisher-selected quotations, so they show favorable reactions but should not be read as a comprehensive review average.
What platforms is Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi on?
Official listings show versions for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The platform pages give different dates according to region and format:
| Platform or format | Listing details |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 4 | PlayStation Store lists October 28, 2021. Its page says the PS4 game is playable on PS5; that is backward compatibility, not a native PS5 edition. |
| Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S | Xbox lists October 28, 2021 and single-player capability. |
| PC | Steam lists November 4, 2021; it names EXPERIENCE and Poppy Works as developers, Aksys Games as publisher, and single-player play. |

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which edition should you choose?
Choose based on the platform you want to play on and the edition available in your region. PC players can check Steam; console players can use their platform’s store. Nintendo UK lists both a download edition and a physical game-card edition, making Switch a format choice as well as a platform choice.
- Check the language options on the exact regional store page before buying. Steam lists English interface and subtitles, alongside Japanese audio and subtitles; Nintendo UK lists English. Those listings do not establish identical language support for every platform or region.
- Check the live price, stock, region, and edition on the retailer or store page. Current prices and inventory are not established here.
- Do not assume a PS5-native version: the PlayStation Store listing describes the PS4 game as playable on PS5.
What is the age rating and content?
Ratings vary by territory and rating organization. The ESRB entry lists Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, Violence, and Language. Nintendo UK lists PEGI 12. Use the rating shown for your country and platform rather than treating ESRB and PEGI ratings as interchangeable.
