Ubisoft launched Vantage Studios on 1 October 2025 as the creative house responsible for Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. Tencent invested €1.16 billion for a 26.32% economic interest, but Ubisoft says it retains exclusive control and consolidates the subsidiary.
What is Vantage Studios?
Vantage Studios is Ubisoft’s France-based subsidiary, legally named Ubisoft Nova SAS. Ubisoft describes it as a “creative house” responsible for three of its major game franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. It launched on 1 October 2025 and was fully operational from that date, according to Ubisoft’s launch announcement and November closing announcement.
The studio brings together teams working on those franchises in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia. Ubisoft says it includes thousands of experienced developers, along with the associated back catalog and games in development or planned for development.
How much of Vantage Studios does Tencent own?
Tencent’s €1.16 billion investment closed on 21 November 2025. The final terms gave Tencent a 26.32% economic interest in Vantage; that is distinct from the approximate 25% interest Ubisoft described when it announced the transaction on 27 March 2025. Ubisoft said the completed deal valued Vantage at a €3.8 billion pre-money enterprise value.

Tencent is a minority shareholder in Vantage, not the owner or controller of Ubisoft. Ubisoft says it retains exclusive control of Vantage and continues to consolidate the entity. The closing announcement also describes customary minority-protection veto and consent rights, including consent rights over disposals of important subsidiary assets. Tencent’s Vantage securities are subject to a five-year lock-up, with an exception if Ubisoft ceases to own a majority of voting rights and share capital.
Which franchises and development teams are included?
Vantage’s remit is Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. Ubisoft said the subsidiary would include teams working on those franchises across six locations:

The transaction announcement said Ubisoft granted Vantage an exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual worldwide license to the related intellectual property in exchange for a royalty. The public announcements describe franchise responsibility and the licensing arrangement; they do not enumerate every specific game or confirm that every future title in those franchises will be developed solely by Vantage.
Who runs Vantage Studios?
Ubisoft named Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes co-CEOs in July 2025. In Ubisoft’s interview with the co-CEOs, it described their responsibilities as complementary: Guillemot leads the “what”—brand vision, direction, content development, and marketing—while Derennes leads the “how,” including production, co-development, and technology. Why did Ubisoft create the subsidiary?
Ubisoft said Vantage is the first step in a broader Creative Houses operating model, with additional houses planned around groups of franchises that share an identity and development expertise. The company’s stated aim is to give franchise teams greater focus, autonomy, and accountability, and to improve efficiency. Those are strategic goals, not independently demonstrated results.
For Vantage’s franchises, Ubisoft outlined plans to build evergreen, multi-platform game ecosystems: improve narrative single-player experiences, expand multiplayer offerings, release content more frequently, add free-to-play touchpoints, and develop social features. These are intentions announced by Ubisoft, not confirmation that the changes have already been delivered or have improved performance.

Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot called the investment closing “the closing of our strategic partnership with Tencent, which now becomes a minority shareholder in our new subsidiary, Vantage Studios.” Charlie Guillemot said the new setup should make it “easier to pivot when we need to change course.” Such comments express the companies’ rationale; they do not establish how the model will perform.
What the deal means—and what it does not
The transaction separates a defined group of Ubisoft franchises and teams into a dedicated subsidiary while bringing in Tencent as a significant minority investor. It does not mean Tencent bought Ubisoft or has taken control of the publisher. Nor do Ubisoft’s plans for faster decisions, more frequent content, or new Creative Houses establish that those outcomes have happened; the announcements provide deal terms and strategy, not independent post-launch performance data.
