There are two different cameras in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Photo Mode for creative in-game pictures, and the Camera Gadget for completing Photo Ops and other activity-specific shots. Photo Mode is available through its assigned shortcut; Photo Ops unlock after the main mission “Show Me New York,” according to a secondary guide.
Photo Mode and the Camera Gadget do different jobs

PlayStation’s October 19, 2023 overview of Photo Mode distinguishes the creative mode from the Camera Gadget, which is for side-activity-specific shots. The two tools are not interchangeable when an activity asks you to take a photo.

How to open Photo Mode
Photo Mode access is controlled by the extra-button shortcut configuration. Assign Photo Mode to that shortcut, then use the assigned button in-game to open it. The PlayStation overview also describes creative options under Camera and Lens tabs, including field of view, exposure, and depth of field.
How to unlock and use the Camera Gadget for Photo Ops

A secondary guide reports that Photo Ops become available after completing the main mission “Show Me New York.” This is the Photo Ops unlock, not a prerequisite for general Photo Mode.

Take the Photo Op picture
- When a Photo Op is available, swipe up on the controller’s touch pad to open the Camera Gadget.
- Hold L2 to focus on the subject.
- Press R1 to take the picture.
These are the controls reported by the secondary guide. If you have remapped controls, your bindings may differ. Use the Camera Gadget for the activity: a Photo Mode image will not count as completing a Photo Op.

- For a posed or edited image that is not tied to an activity, use Photo Mode.
- For a required Photo Op or another side-activity-specific shot, use the Camera Gadget.
- If Photo Mode does not open with your expected button, check the extra-button shortcut assignment.
The cited official overview dates to 2023, and the available sources do not establish whether later patches or other platform versions changed these controls.
