No official evidence confirms that Command & Conquer: Generals is currently free. Steam has support records for Generals and Generals Zero Hour, but those records do not show a price or establish that either game can currently be purchased there. Check an official storefront for your region before paying or downloading; don’t treat a support page or an unofficial download listing as proof of free access.
Is Command & Conquer: Generals free to download?
That is not established by the official information available here. Steam Support lists separate records for Command & Conquer: Generals and Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour, but support records are not purchase listings and do not prove that either game is free, currently on sale, or available in a particular region. Steam Support was checked on October 8, 2026.

Does the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection include Generals?
No. EA describes the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection as a remaster of the original Command & Conquer and Red Alert games and their expansions. It is a separate product, not a remaster or bundle of Generals. EA’s purchase page and EA’s catalog page describe the collection’s contents.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check an official way to get Generals
- Open the official PC storefront you plan to use and search for the exact title, Command & Conquer: Generals. Check separately for Generals Zero Hour; it is a distinct named game.
- Confirm the product page is for the game you want, then check its displayed price, regional availability, edition, and system requirements before purchasing or installing.
- If you are considering the Remastered Collection instead, verify that you want its included original Command & Conquer and Red Alert games—not Generals. EA’s installation guidance covers the collection through the EA app or Steam, not Generals: EA Help: How to play the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection.
Neither an old listing nor a support record confirms a currently authorized free download. Avoid treating third-party download pages as official access; verify any offer through the publisher or storefront itself.
