There is no public evidence that EA can remotely identify WickedWhims by name on your computer. The mod is installed locally in The Sims 4 Mods folder and loaded when the game’s mod settings are enabled, but EA’s public policy and reporting guidance do not say whether the game or its services transmit a list of installed mods. That uncertainty is separate from EA’s authority to act against mods that violate its rules.
Can EA see what mods you have installed?
WickedWhims’ installation guide instructs players to put its PACKAGE and TS4SCRIPT files in the local folder Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. The game can load those files when “Custom Content and Mods” and “Script Mods Allowed” are enabled. This confirms that the mod is present and available to the local game; it does not establish that EA receives the mod’s name or files.

EA’s public The Sims 4 Policy on Mods does not name WickedWhims or explain whether installed-mod information is sent to EA. That omission is not proof that no telemetry exists. The available public information does not settle whether EA can technically identify a particular installed mod remotely.
What EA’s mod policy does—and does not—say
EA and Maxis state that they do not pre-screen, endorse, or support specific mods or custom content. The policy also says EA reserves the right to address inappropriate mods, including content that infringes others’ intellectual-property or privacy rights, is obscene, objectionable, or harmful, jeopardizes gameplay integrity, or otherwise violates the EA User Agreement.

The policy establishes that EA may enforce its rules; it does not disclose a method for detecting a player’s local files. It also does not specifically identify WickedWhims as approved, prohibited, or exempt. EA’s rules additionally require mods to be non-commercial and distributed free, while allowing a reasonable early-access period before full free access and passive ads or donation requests limited to a creator’s website or distribution site.
Will you get banned for using WickedWhims?
The public sources do not establish that using WickedWhims automatically results in a ban, nor do they establish that EA detects every installation. A more precise conclusion is that EA reserves the right to address mods it considers inappropriate under its policy, while the policy does not describe technical identification or name this mod. Avoid treating either “EA can’t detect it” or “EA will ban you for it” as a confirmed fact.

How mod reports work
EA provides a player-reporting route for mods that may violate its rules. Its guidance directs players to the Report a Mod in The Sims 4 process: use the Report a Player form, select “Inappropriate content,” choose The Sims 4, and provide details about the mod. This is a way for players to report content; it does not describe automatic inspection of each player’s Mods folder.

Game updates can affect mods independently of any enforcement question. WickedWhims’ installation instructions say that game patches automatically turn off the mod settings, so players may need to re-enable them. A setting that has switched off is not evidence that EA detected WickedWhims.

EA Forums community guidance explains that mods can break when a game update changes code they depend on. It recommends backing up saves and checking creators’ compatibility updates; this is community guidance, not a published technical account from EA. Check the WickedWhims download page for the current release and supported game versions before installing or troubleshooting. The creator page reviewed on October 8, 2026 listed v185k, dated May 23, 2026, and supported game versions including 1.128.90; these version details can change.
