1. Jamaica
Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter. His landmark performances came in the 100m and 200m, as well as Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team.
2. 9.58 seconds, Berlin, 2009
Bolt set the men’s 100m world record at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Olympedia lists the mark in his athlete profile; the Associated Press reported it as the current record in September 2025. Olympedia athlete profile · Associated Press, 2025.
Rank #4
3. 19.19 seconds, Berlin, 2009
He set the men’s 200m world record at the same championships. Don’t confuse it with the 19.30-second Olympic record he ran in Beijing in 2008.
4. 9.63 seconds, London 2012
Bolt’s Olympic 100m record is slower than his 9.58 world record because the Olympic mark is a separate record category. Olympedia.
5. 19.30 seconds, Beijing 2008
Bolt set the Olympic 200m record at the Beijing Games. He later lowered the world record to 19.19 seconds in Berlin in 2009; that is not his Olympic record. Olympedia.

6. Eight
Bolt’s corrected official total is eight Olympic gold medals. He originally won three events at each of three successive Games, but Jamaica’s 2008 relay result was later disqualified following Nesta Carter’s doping case. The Associated Press reported eight Olympic golds in its 2025 profile. Associated Press, 2025.
7. Winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay at three successive Olympics
The phrase refers to Bolt’s on-track sweep of those three events at Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016. Because the 2008 relay result was later struck from the record, “triple-triple” describes what happened on the track, not nine official gold medals.
8. The team was disqualified after Nesta Carter’s doping case
Jamaica’s relay team initially crossed the finish line first at Beijing 2008, but the result was disqualified in 2017 after Carter’s doping case. That removed one gold from Bolt’s official total.
9. A 200m silver at the 2007 World Championships
Bolt’s first major medal was silver behind Tyson Gay. He took up the 100m as a championship distance the following year, according to World Athletics’ historical account. World Athletics.
