Path of Exile 2’s 0.1.1 update expanded the endgame with four Tower Map areas, revamped Lost Towers, added map checkpoints and changed access to the Arbiter of Ash. It also adjusted monsters and items, improved controls and performance, and added item-filter support for console players. Grinding Gear Games previewed the patch on January 12, 2025; its final notes, published January 16, specify what shipped.
What the January 2025 announcement said—and what the notes confirmed
Grinding Gear Games’ January 12 announcement, “Upcoming Changes in Path of Exile 2 0.1.1”, introduced a video in which Game Director Jonathan Rogers discussed issues the patch would address. The studio said the full notes would follow a few days later, so the announcement was a preview rather than a complete change list.

The final 0.1.1 Patch Notes, posted January 16, documented a broader update spanning endgame maps, the Arbiter of Ash, monsters, unique items, usability, controls, console filters, performance, and bug fixes. The details below describe that January 2025 release; they do not establish how those mechanics work in later versions.
How patch 0.1.1 changed the endgame map
New Tower Map areas and a Lost Towers revamp
The update added four Tower Map areas: Alpine Ridge, Bluff, Mesa, and Sinking Spire. It also revamped Lost Towers. Checkpoints were added to map areas, changing how players could resume progress within them.

GGG also adjusted map navigation: Citadels could appear closer to the Ziggurat Refuge and became more visible on the Endgame Map. Hovering over a biome on the Atlas could show its map biomes.
More ways to shape maps and find bosses
The Overseer’s Precursor Tablet is a currency item used in completed Towers. It adds Map Bosses to valid maps within its radius, drops from Map Bosses, and can roll modifiers that affect Map Bosses.
Map areas were given more distinct specialisations. Depending on the area, changes could increase the number or chance of chests, monsters, magic and rare monsters, Essences, Strongboxes, or Shrines. These were area-specific adjustments, not a promise that every map contained every feature.
The patch set a minimum of three Rare Monsters in map areas and adjusted Map Boss frequency to roughly one in four maps. Because the total number of Map Bosses increased, Waystone-drop chances were adjusted in response. Simulacrum encounters also received reduced monster damage scaling at added difficulty.

Arbiter of Ash: respawns, difficulty, and fight changes
The Arbiter of Ash encounter gained up to five respawn attempts. The maximum was not universal: higher boss difficulties reduced the number available. Only the player who inserted the keys could trigger a respawn; the party revived together, and leaving the map forfeited the attempt.
GGG also changed several encounter behaviors. The Arbiter could no longer be interrupted during falling flame seed, flaming gale could no longer be blocked, and invulnerability during emergence lasted longer. Damage dealt during emergence was significantly reduced, and the boss became less likely to target minions with his sword.
The January notes said GGG intended to add respawn attempts to other Pinnacle content over time. That was a future intention, not a feature included for other Pinnacle encounters in 0.1.1.

Beyond maps and the Arbiter, the notes covered balance, rewards, interface and performance. For example, GGG described armour as made more effective “by approximately 15%.” That figure is the patch notes’ characterization of the change, not an independently measured result.

The notes also included unique-item stat changes, visual assets, localization fixes, and bug fixes affecting skills, maps, quests, and interfaces. Those examples illustrate the update’s breadth; they are not a complete inventory of its fixes.
Controller and console changes
Controller-focused changes included adjusted auto-targeting, a new binding for label visibility, and changes to navigation and interaction. The update also made the game pause by default if a controller disconnected and fixed controller issues in menus and co-op.
Console players gained item-filter support by subscribing to a filter on the Path of Exile website. These were software and interface features in the patch notes, not requirements to buy a particular controller or other hardware.
Sources and date scope
The announcement and final notes are official Grinding Gear Games posts dated January 12 and January 16, 2025. This is a historical explanation of patch 0.1.1, not a claim that it is the current Path of Exile 2 version or that its mechanics remain unchanged.
