Uth Duna is a Leviathan found in the Scarlet Forest in Monster Hunter Wilds. Look for it in waterlogged areas, especially during rain; bring a thunder-element weapon, watch for its wave-producing leap, and use Nulberries if Waterblight drains your stamina. Its materials are used for crafting, and breaking parts can help when you are pursuing specific rewards.
Where to find Uth Duna
Uth Duna inhabits the Scarlet Forest, with sightings reported in waterlogged areas and particularly in the forest’s northern reaches. Rain makes a wild encounter more likely, but it is not a guarantee: the guide also reports occasional appearances in sunny weather. The in-game ecological description reproduced on Steam calls it “The leviathan that reigns supreme over the Scarlet Forest’s ecosystem.” A separate game database identifies it as a Leviathan associated with the Scarlet Forest.
If you want a more reliable encounter than searching the wild, use a quest that specifically features Uth Duna. The Siliconera encounter guide names forced-encounter quests, but unlock conditions can depend on story progress and game updates; check the current quest list in your game. The guide also recommends checking the map’s Environment Overview for conditions. Its note that players could not control the weather reflects the guide’s publication context, so do not assume that weather controls—or their absence—are unchanged in the current version.
How to prepare for the hunt
Use thunder and target openings
Thunder is Uth Duna’s key elemental weakness. Its head and claws are reported as vulnerable areas, but closing in to strike them requires taking more risk. A bow or bowgun can offer a way to target weak areas from farther away; that is a positioning trade-off, not a claim that ranged weapons are universally better. The database’s weakness listing also ranks Thunder as its strongest listed elemental weakness.

Understand the water veil
Uth Duna can billow its fins into a defensive veil that reduces ordinary damage. Keep applying pressure and use thunder while the fins are raised; the veil drops after the monster loses enough water. The database reports that Uth Duna becomes more agile and aggressive once the veil falls, so an apparent opening can lead into a faster phase rather than a safer one.
Pack for Waterblight
Its water attacks can inflict Waterblight, which increases stamina consumption. Carry Nulberries so you can clear the status rather than letting the extra stamina drain interfere with dodging or repositioning.
How to handle Uth Duna’s attacks
Its moves include claw swipes, bites, a spinning attack, and a leap-and-slam that sends a wave across the area. The wave is the major positioning check: do not wait until it reaches you to react.
- When the leap-and-slam wind-up begins: start moving early. The wave travels across the area, so a late dodge may leave too little time to escape.
- Use terrain when available: take cover at higher ground or behind an obstacle to avoid the wave, as advised by the game database.
- After the veil falls: expect quicker, more aggressive movement and avoid committing to long attacks without an opening.
- After Waterblight: use a Nulberry to restore normal stamina behavior before relying on repeated dodges.
Uth Duna rewards and materials
Reported low-rank rewards include Uth Duna Claw, Scale, Tentacle, Cilia, Hide, Aqua Sac, and Certificate, alongside rank-specific materials. These names are useful when planning a farm, but exact drop odds and quest rewards are not established here as patch-proof values. Check the current in-game reward list for the quest and rank you are doing.

Part breaks matter if you are seeking particular materials: the encounter guide reports that breaking parts affects some drops. It also reports that capture can offer the same chance at the same parts as hunting for low- and high-rank encounters. Treat that as guide-reported reward information, and consult the live reward screen for the encounter you are farming.
