No, Assassin’s Creed Origins does not have native ray tracing. Ubisoft’s PC requirements, its PC feature announcement, and the Steam store listing do not document a ray-tracing option, and none of them describes ray-traced lighting, reflections, or shadows. A graphics card with ray-tracing hardware will not change that, because the game has to implement the feature before a card can run it. The PC version’s real visual controls are about resolution and frame-rate management, and they are covered below.
What the official sources say
Four official or storefront sources cover the game’s technical side. None of them names ray tracing.
| Source | What it states | Ray-tracing mention |
|---|---|---|
| Ubisoft’s PC system requirements (Ubisoft Help support page) | Lists the June 2010 DirectX Redistributable, minimum and recommended graphics hardware, and 1080p targets at 30 and 60 frames per second | None |
| Steam store listing for the PC version | Lists DirectX 11 and repeats the minimum and recommended GPU classes | None |
| Ubisoft’s PC feature announcement, dated October 5, 2017 | Describes dynamic resolution rendering, a resolution multiplier, adjustable frame-rate targets, a built-in benchmark, and in-game performance analysis | None |
| Ubisoft’s product listing | Gives the release date as October 27, 2017, for PC, PS4, and Xbox | None |
The two API labels describe different things and should not be merged. Steam’s DirectX 11 entry names the graphics API the PC version is listed under. Ubisoft’s June 2010 DirectX Redistributable is a runtime package the game’s installer relies on. Neither label says DirectX 12 or DXR, so neither supports a claim that the game uses hardware ray tracing.
Why a ray-tracing graphics card does not add the feature
Ray tracing is a rendering path that a game’s engine must build and expose. The GPU supplies the hardware that can run it, but the game decides which lighting and reflection techniques it calculates. Origins uses its own lighting pipeline, and no documented setting switches that pipeline to a ray-traced one.

A newer card still matters. It can raise frame rates, allow a higher resolution, or make the game’s other options run more smoothly. Those gains come from raw rendering power, not from a new feature. This article concerns native, in-game support. Driver-level filters, third-party mods, and post-processing applied outside the game are not the game shipping ray tracing, and the official sources say nothing about them.
The PC controls that do exist
Ubisoft’s PC announcement describes four controls that affect how the image is rendered and how the game holds its performance target.
Rank #2
- Assassin's Creed Origins: Over 50 E3 awards and nominations
- Unearth the pharaohs' tombs, solve the mysteries of Egypt, and come face to face with ancient gods
- Reveal the origin story through a tale of the first Assassin on a fearless quest for redemption
- Attack multiple enemies at once and string together devastating combos with all new combat mechanics
- Play the deep and meaningful missions in any order you choose no two experiences are the same
Dynamic resolution rendering
Dynamic resolution keeps frame rate near a target by lowering or raising the rendering resolution as the scene load changes. It trades image sharpness for steadier frames, so it is most useful when your hardware is close to its limit.
Resolution multiplier
The resolution multiplier scales the internal render resolution in the game’s graphics options. A value above 1.0 renders more pixels than the display shows, which can sharpen the image on capable hardware, at a real cost in frame rate. Treat it as a rendering-resolution control, not a visual-effect toggle.

Adjustable frame-rate targets
The game lets you set a frame-rate target. Matching the target to your display’s refresh rate or to the 30 and 60 frames-per-second benchmarks Ubisoft publishes gives you a fixed goal for the other settings.
Benchmark and performance analysis
The built-in benchmark gives a repeatable baseline before you change settings. The in-game performance analysis helps identify whether resolution or another setting is the limiting factor. Use both before and after each change rather than adjusting several settings at once.

Hardware targets: minimum and recommended
Ubisoft’s published targets are the most reliable guide to what the PC version expects from hardware.
| Item | Minimum target | Recommended target |
|---|---|---|
| Performance target | 1080p at 30 frames per second | 1080p at 60 frames per second |
| Graphics card | AMD Radeon R9 270 (2 GB) or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2 GB) | AMD Radeon R9 280X (3 GB) or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (4 GB) |
| System RAM | 6 GB | 8 GB |
These are targets Ubisoft publishes for the game, not guarantees of identical performance on every system. Driver version, background software, and the scene being played all change the result.

How to get the best image from the available options
- Run the built-in benchmark at the default settings to record a baseline frame rate.
- Set the frame-rate target to match your display, either 30 or 60 frames per second.
- Raise the resolution multiplier only if the benchmark leaves frame-rate headroom.
- Keep dynamic resolution on if you want the game to protect frame rate in heavy scenes. Turn it off if you need a fixed render resolution and can accept dips in frame rate.
- Use the performance analysis to see whether resolution is the bottleneck, then change one setting at a time and rerun the benchmark.
When comparing these options, judge resolution, image sharpness, and frame rate. Do not treat them as ray-tracing modes, because the game has none.
Platforms
Ubisoft released the game on October 27, 2017, for PC, PS4, and Xbox. The PC material cited above documents rendering and performance controls only. It does not document ray tracing on PS4 or Xbox either.
