Valheim’s Bog Witch update first arrived on the Public Test Branch (PTR) as patch 0.219.10 on October 15, 2024. It added a Swamp trader, a shareable feast system, new skills and homesteading tools. The test build was not the general release: Iron Gate released the update to everyone as patch 0.219.13 on October 29, after making adjustments during testing.
When did the Bog Witch update leave the PTR?
Iron Gate opened patch 0.219.10 to Public Test Branch players on October 15, 2024. The studio warned that a test build could be unstable while it gathered bug reports and tuned balance, and advised players to back up their save files before trying it. The update became the public release with patch 0.219.13 on October 29, following a couple of weeks of testing and adjustments.

What does the Bog Witch add?
The update’s main draw is a new trader in the Swamps, along with ingredients and materials for brewing potions and preparing feasts. Iron Gate’s October 2024 notes enumerate the following additions; these are the studio’s patch-note counts.

How does the feast mechanic work?
Iron Gate describes feasts as “Large meals that last longer and can be shared among several people.” The update’s eight feasts bring a group-oriented meal option to Valheim: rather than being ordinary food items, they are intended for longer-lasting benefits that players can share. The new trader sells materials used for this mechanic.

What do the new skills and tools do?
Cooking, Farming and Crafting
The PTR notes describe three skills tied to food preparation, crops and making items:
- Cooking: Reduces food-crafting time and gives a chance to produce one extra food while crafting.
- Farming: Reduces Cultivator stamina cost, improves the durability of farming items and gives a chance of bonus crop yield.
- Crafting: Reduces crafting time, increases the durability of crafting items and lowers the stamina cost of placing build pieces.
Serving tray and scythe
The serving tray lets players place consumables like build pieces. The scythe is a tool for harvesting crops faster. In a PTR adjustment, Iron Gate moved the scythe-handle purchase checkpoint from after defeating Yagluth to after defeating Moder. That detail describes a test-branch change; it should not be treated as a definitive current unlock requirement.

What changed after the public release?
The launch patch was followed by updates that addressed issues reported or found after release. The October 30, 2024, hotfix 0.219.14 fixed controller input, feast replenishment after logging out and back in, joining servers through DNS, and visual states for the Food Preparation Table and Mead Kettil. Patch 0.219.16, dated November 19, included adjustments for gamepad navigation, stuttering near the Bog Witch hut, served food and skill behavior. Iron Gate lists these changes in its 0.219.14 hotfix notes and 0.219.16 notes.
In a November 2024 development post, Iron Gate said the team was focused on Deep North and version 1.0 after the Bog Witch update, while noting that bug fixing might continue. That is a dated statement from the time, not a description of the studio’s current roadmap. See the November 2024 development post.
