Bloodlines 2 has three Blood Resonance types: Melancholic, Sanguine, and Choleric. You can get resonant blood in two ways. Ordinary pedestrians have to be talked into full resonance, or you can take a map-highlighted Blood Resonance Event, where the target is already fully resonated and the conversation step is skipped. Resonant blood also matters for progression, because it feeds the Clan Contact system that restores abilities from clans Phyre does not belong to.

The three Blood Resonance types

The official developer diary describes resonance as emotionally charged blood. Each type is tied to a feeling in the target, and that feeling determines how the target behaves once fully resonated.

Type Emotion (official definition) Event marker color (launch-era guide) Behavior described by the developer
Melancholic Anxious or afraid Purple The target may run in terror
Sanguine Aroused or experiencing sexual attraction Pink The target may find Phyre irresistibly attractive
Choleric Annoyed or angry Red The target may become aggressive

The marker colors come from a launch-era guide, not from the publisher’s own rules. If the color on your map differs, trust the map. Event presentation can change with patches.

Two ways to get resonant blood

Heightened Senses is the starting tool for both methods. It is used to identify ordinary mortals who have a potential resonance. From there, the path depends on whether the target is already resonated.

Turning a pedestrian through conversation

With a pedestrian you have identified, you attempt to make them fully resonant through dialogue. According to the developer, roleplay choices shape which conversation options are available, and Phyre’s appearance also affects the outcome. This method takes more effort, but it works on any suitable pedestrian you can find.

Map-highlighted Blood Resonance Events

Lead Game Designer Gavin Hood describes the alternative:

“You can find events happening around the city – highlighted on the map – where NPCs are already fully resonated allowing players to skip the conversation and jump straight into the feeding.”

Use the map to find these events. The publisher describes them as appearing around the city and being highlighted on the map. Official sources do not establish fixed spawn locations, a complete list of named event scenes, or event coordinates, so treat any location list you find elsewhere with caution.

Handling each event type

The table gives each type’s emotion and the behavior the developer describes. The notes below cover practical handling and where the evidence stops.

Choleric events

Choleric targets are the ones most likely to turn aggressive, so plan for a confrontation. The launch-era guide recommends leading the target somewhere secluded before feeding. The publisher has not confirmed this tactic in the sources reviewed, so treat it as the guide’s suggestion rather than an official requirement.

Sanguine events

Sanguine targets are attracted to Phyre. The official description covers the behavior, but the sources do not document a specific tactic for these events beyond that. Roleplay and appearance, covered below, are the main levers you have.

Melancholic events

Melancholic targets are anxious or afraid and may run in terror. Because they may flee, the official sources do not describe a specific handling method for this type. Plan your approach so you can reach the target before it escapes.

Using resonance for progression

Resonant blood is a progression resource, not just a feeding variation. Clan Contacts use it to restore access to abilities from other clans. The official developer diary describes the process as follows:

  1. Reach the stage in the game where the relevant Clan Contact becomes available.
  2. Collect the required amount of the relevant resonance type first. The diary does not give a fixed number in the sources reviewed.
  3. Drink from the Clan Contact. This adds the ability to your Ability Tree.
  4. Spend Ability Points in the Ability Tree to unlock the ability.

How roleplay, appearance, and disciplines affect targets

The FAQ says that disciplines and outfit choices can affect street NPCs. Some abilities can deliberately create resonance. The FAQ names three examples, one for each emotion:

Rank #3
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 (Playstation 5)
  • Blood sustains you and empowers your vampiric Disciplines. You’ll stalk and feed on the city’s population at night. Use your supernatural powers or raw persuasion on unsuspecting mortals to lure them into dark alleys and slake your Hunger.
  • Enter the World of Darkness and rise through vampire society or rail against it. Experience Seattle - a city full of alluring, dangerous characters and factions, not to mention the mortals at stake in the clash of powers beyond their knowing.
  • Hunt your way through a modern-night Seattle on the brink of an open supernatural war in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, where visceral vampire action meets a neo-noir murder mystery. Navigate the vampire Court of Seattle and its dark underbelly in this action RPG, realized by the BAFTA award-winning studio The Chinese Room.
  • Brujah’s Taunt provokes anger.
  • Toreador’s Beckon provokes seduction.
  • Lasombra’s Glimpse of Oblivion provokes fear.
  • Mass Manipulation can affect a group rather than a single target.

These are tactical options, not a universal toolkit. The FAQ does not say every clan has equivalent abilities, so do not assume each clan can produce every resonance type in the same way.

Feeding in public

Feeding in view of other people can risk the Masquerade. A launch-era guide recommends moving targets out of public view before feeding. That is the guide’s advice, not an official instruction, so the specific route it suggests should not be taken as the publisher’s guidance.

What the sources do not establish

The official sources reviewed publish no figures for event frequency, blood totals, or time to complete an event. Do not expect numbers on how many events appear or how much blood each yields. The developer’s descriptions are the most reliable account of how the mechanic works; the marker colors and tactics above are secondary reporting.

Paradox’s FAQ states the game released on October 21, 2025. This article describes the mechanic from the developer’s descriptions and launch-era guide reporting, and game updates may change how events appear or behave.
