What is Velvet Shade?
Velvet Shade is a high-society sect associated with the Windtail Lounge and themes of charisma, beauty, and social influence. Its signature Martial Art is the Vernal Umbrella, and its general playstyle is described as social progression, cosmetics, and charm. These details come from the third-party MyWhereWindsMeet sect reference, not an official game announcement.
The reference lists two sect precepts:
- Full Bloom: show charm, follow desires, and trade affection for hearts.
- Drunk on Flowers: steal multiple hearts while enjoying social life.
These are descriptions of the game faction’s identity, not real-world relationship guidance. A third precept sometimes claimed elsewhere, “Vermillion Lips,” is not confirmed by the reviewed sect reference or joining guide. If your in-game panel shows different rules, rely on the current client and include your version and region when asking for help.
How to join Velvet Shade
The most detailed published route is from Sekin’s guide, updated August 8, 2026. It describes the global-client process below, but it is a third-party account rather than an official, guaranteed procedure. Check the current clue and each NPC prompt in your game before committing to the sequence.
- Reach level 10 and unlock Kaifeng. The guide identifies both as prerequisites for its route.
- Build “Companions” intimacy with another player. This route requires another player, so coordinate before starting.
- Go to Crimson Cliff and marry through Shi Yimo.
- Request a divorce and wait 24 hours. The guide reports this cooldown as part of the route.
- Return to Shi Yimo and pay 50,000 coins. The guide says the invitation should appear afterward.
If the invitation does not appear, the guide reports that remarrying may trigger it. Treat that as a troubleshooting suggestion, not a guaranteed fix; verify the current in-game clue before repeating costly or time-gated steps.
Clues and requirements that are not settled
The guide names “Shadows in Bloom” and “Gathering of Heroes” as related clue quests and cautions that availability can differ by client. It also says the commonly repeated requirement of 2,000 Elegance is not verified as a universal shortcut. Do not assume that reaching that number guarantees entry.

What you get as a member
The main draw is access to the Vernal Umbrella style and Velvet Shade’s social and reputation-oriented progression. Sekin’s guide describes a reputation shop with cosmetics, emotes, fireworks, an avatar, a hairstyle, and an outfit. Availability and unlock conditions can change, so inspect the current sect shop rather than assuming every item is immediately accessible.
Joining is not necessarily the only checkpoint. Membership tasks, claiming task rewards, building standing, and qualifying for a particular shop item may be separate steps. The Where Winds Meet Handbook’s sect guide recommends checking task and reward requirements in the current menus.

Is Velvet Shade worth joining?
It is a better fit if you want the Vernal Umbrella, cosmetics, or social and relationship-oriented faction activities—and are willing to take part in the required systems. Consider the actual entry route and the activities attached to membership, not just the outfit or weapon style you hope to unlock.
Sects are optional, not permanent character classes. A broader Steam Community sect guide says players can remain sectless, while membership brings rules and possible penalties. Before joining, compare the current rules, tasks, standing requirements, and rewards with what you want from play. Evidence available here does not support a complete, current comparison of every sect.
