Other games offer a direct final-boss premise, a playable former boss, or a villain protagonist with destructive powers—but those are different kinds of fantasy.
What “playing as a boss” can mean
These games fall into three distinct categories. A literal boss game puts you in control of the enemy in an encounter against other players. A former-boss game makes a once-powerful enemy playable as part of a broader game. A villain-protagonist game lets you cause chaos as an antagonist, without making you a boss in the encounter sense.

The experience is therefore built around a group facing a player-controlled opponent, not a solo villain rampage through an open world.

The Final Boss has an even more literal premise in its Steam listing: “Play as Final Boss and kill all the heroes coming to your room.” The indexed description supports the role fantasy, but it does not establish current availability or enough platform information to make a broader recommendation about where to play it.
Games with a villain or former boss you can play
Destroy All Humans!: wreak havoc as the antagonist
Destroy All Humans! is for players who want the destructive side of the fantasy more than a boss-versus-raid match. You play as Crypto-137, an evil alien invading 1950s Earth with alien weapons, psychic abilities, and a flying saucer. The publisher describes the role as: “Terrorize the people of 1950s Earth in the role of the evil alien Crypto-137.” That makes it a villain-protagonist game, not a literal boss simulator.

Spacelords: play a former final boss
In Spacelords, Aneska first appeared as a final boss and later became a recruitable playable character. Xbox Wire reported that the playable character was evolved from the enemy version for balance: “The Aneska that our players will enjoy playing with in their games won’t be the exact same character they faced as an enemy, but an evolved one.” This is a useful fit if you want to play as a character who began as a boss, but it does not mean the whole game has you controlling a boss encounter.

Which one should you choose?
- For the most literal boss-versus-players setup: choose Bossgard. Its official site explicitly describes one boss player facing a five-player raid group.
- For a direct final-boss premise: The Final Boss is described that way in its Steam listing, though its present availability and platform details are not established here.
- For an antagonist causing widespread mayhem: Destroy All Humans! casts you as Crypto-137, but it is a villain-protagonist game rather than a boss encounter game.
- For a former enemy boss as a playable character: Spacelords’ Aneska fits that narrower character-unlock angle.
Tabletop companion: Boss Monster
Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game is not a video game, but it shares the boss fantasy in tabletop form. Its rules have players build a video-game-style, side-scrolling dungeon, lure heroes through rooms, and try to collect souls. The rulebook specifies 2–4 players. Treat it as a separate tabletop option, not as a video-game recommendation.
