Yes—but only marginally. U.S. video-game hardware spending reached $927 million during the four weeks from November 3 through November 30, 2024, compared with $924 million in the same period a year earlier. That is an increase of about 0.3%, or roughly flat spending. The small overall change concealed sharply different results across PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox.
How much hardware sold—and how much was spent?
The spending figures and unit counts tell related but different stories. Circana’s November estimates, reported by Insider Gaming and TipRanks/TheFly, put hardware spending at $927 million, up about 0.3% from $924 million in November 2023. TipRanks/TheFly reported approximately 2.4 million hardware units sold, versus 2.3 million a year earlier. Spending was therefore nearly unchanged even as the estimated number of units increased.
The unit total is not a measure of revenue, and the spending total does not reveal how many consoles sold. Neither figure alone establishes why the market changed.

Circana’s year-over-year platform comparisons, as reported by Insider Gaming and VGChartz, show that the near-flat market total masked a wide split in dollar sales:

These are changes in dollar sales, not unit-sales growth rates. The available reporting identifies PS5 and Switch as the first- and second-place platforms in both units and dollars, with Xbox Series X|S in third; it does not provide comparable platform unit totals here.
How much did PS5 Pro contribute?
PS5 Pro launched during the tracking period. VGChartz’s account of Circana data says it represented 19% of PS5 unit sales and 28% of PS5 dollar sales in November. Those shares, alongside 15% year-over-year growth in PS5 dollar sales, make the launch a plausible contributor to PlayStation’s result. They do not show that PS5 Pro alone caused the overall hardware market’s small increase.

How did hardware compare with the wider games market?
Hardware was an exception to a weaker month for total U.S. video-game spending. Circana’s estimate for November spending on hardware, content and accessories was about $5.8 billion, down 7% year over year, according to reporting by Insider Gaming, VGChartz and TipRanks/TheFly. Content spending fell 9%, while accessories rose 4% to $373 million, as reported by Insider Gaming.
Circana Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst Mat Piscatella said, “Projected November 2024 U.S. consumer spending on video game hardware, content and accessories fell 7% when compared to a year ago, to $5.8 billion,” and, “Year-to-date spending is flat to last year.” VGChartz reproduced the statement. Piscatella also attributed part of the broader market comparison to release timing: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 arrived in October 2024, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III fell within the November 2023 tracking period.

What does the November increase say about the year?
It does not establish that hardware demand broadly accelerated. November spending was roughly level, with PS5 gains offset by declines for Switch and Xbox Series. Through November 2024, Circana-attributed reporting put year-to-date hardware sales at 9.4 million units, compared with 11.8 million in the same 2023 period in Insider Gaming’s account; other reporting rounded the prior-year figure to 11.7 million. The reports also describe year-to-date hardware spending as substantially lower in dollars, though the November figures do not provide a dollar total for that comparison.
