That is a Steam-only snapshot—not a 200% rise in Call of Duty’s total player base across PC and consoles. The jump coincided with Verdansk’s return to Warzone, but the available figures do not prove the map alone caused it.
What the 200% figure measures
Insider Gaming reported the 111,377-player snapshot and 207.8% increase on April 3, 2025. The percentage compares concurrent players on the Call of Duty Steam app around the launch of Black Ops 6 Season 3. It does not count unique players, monthly active users, downloads, or everyone playing across Steam, Battle.net, Xbox, and PlayStation. Insider Gaming’s April 3 report attributed the numbers to Steam activity; Activision did not publish an all-platform count in its launch announcement.
“Up 207.8%” means the reported Steam concurrency was a little more than three times the pre-launch comparison figure. The report’s headline rounded that to “over 200%.” Neither wording should be read as evidence that the franchise’s total audience grew by that amount.
Why the count jumped around Verdansk’s return
Activision scheduled Black Ops 6 Season 3 to begin April 2, 2025, with the Warzone content and Verdansk return arriving April 3. The company described Verdansk as a rebuilt version of the original map, retaining familiar elements while adding quality-of-life updates. Its official Season 03 announcement said: “The original, Call of Duty: Warzone Battle Royale experience returns as Verdansk arrives for players to dive into at the start of Season 03!”

The launch package included 150-player Battle Royale matches, the original announcer and Infil cinematics, the ability to shoot during freefall, original supply boxes, and floating loot. These features help explain why players may have returned at that moment, but the timing alone cannot identify what drove the increase. The Season 3 update and other factors arrived alongside the map.
How Steam activity changed across the surrounding months
SteamCharts’ monthly history for the Call of Duty Steam app shows a rise in both average concurrency and monthly peak from March to April 2025, followed by a decline in the average the next month:

These are SteamCharts’ monthly figures, not Activision’s multi-platform totals. A monthly average or peak is also a different measurement from the 111,377 snapshot reported on April 3. The monthly pattern supports the conclusion that Steam activity was higher during April than March, but it cannot isolate Verdansk’s effect from the season update or other causes. SteamCharts’ history tracks the Steam app only.

Steam’s own statistics page likewise presents concurrent Steam users and game rankings. Neither it nor SteamCharts establishes how many people are playing through other PC launchers or consoles, so the available numbers cannot be used to calculate Call of Duty’s all-platform audience.

How to read the headline accurately
- Reported result: 111,377 concurrent players on the Call of Duty Steam app and a 207.8% increase, according to Insider Gaming’s April 3, 2025 report.
- Timing: The increase coincided with Black Ops 6 Season 3 and Verdansk’s April 3 Warzone return.
- Scope: The count covers Steam concurrency, not unique players or the full audience across platforms.
- Causation: The timing and subsequent monthly trend do not show that Verdansk alone caused the rise.
