Newzoo’s June 2026 retrospective estimate puts global video game revenue in 2025 at $201.6 billion, up 9.1% year over year. That is a market-research estimate, not an audited global account. It is the current estimate of the year’s outcome; Newzoo’s September 2025 forecast had put 2025 revenue at $188.8 billion, or 3.4% growth.
Global video game market size in 2025
Newzoo’s June 2026 estimate is the most useful figure for describing the market after 2025 ended: $201.6 billion in global revenue, up 9.1% from 2024. Because it is an estimate compiled by a market-research firm, it should not be read as a single audited total covering every company, country and type of gaming revenue.
The year’s reported size changed substantially as the estimate moved from forecast to retrospective. Newzoo projected $188.8 billion in September 2025, with 3.4% year-over-year growth. Its June 2026 estimate was $12.8 billion higher. Those figures represent different estimate vintages, not two competing measurements of the same kind: use the later one for current reporting on 2025, and retain the earlier one only when explaining how expectations shifted.
Revenue and growth by platform
Mobile remained the largest platform segment by estimated revenue. PC had the strongest year-over-year growth among the three segments, while console grew more slowly. Newzoo’s June 2026 estimates for 2025 are:

| Platform | Estimated 2025 revenue | Year-over-year growth |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile | $113.3 billion | 10.7% |
| PC | $43.6 billion | 12.0% |
| Console | $44.7 billion | 2.8% |
These are estimates for the calendar year 2025, not forecasts made during that year. The three figures add to Newzoo’s $201.6 billion global estimate. The platform comparison also shows why a single growth rate can obscure different business conditions: the biggest segment was not the fastest-growing one.
How spending trends differed across PC and console
Newzoo’s 2026 retrospective points to different patterns in game sales and ongoing monetization. Its estimates for 2025 report growth in PC full-game revenue and microtransactions, a decline in console microtransaction spending, and growth in console multi-game subscription revenue.
| Revenue category | Estimated 2025 change |
|---|---|
| PC full-game revenue | Up 25% |
| PC microtransaction revenue | Up 9.1% |
| Console microtransaction spending | Down 4.6% |
| Console multi-game subscription revenue | Up 10.2% |
The figures describe particular revenue categories, not every game or player on each platform. They do not support a blanket claim that microtransactions rose or fell across the whole industry: the reported PC and console directions differ. Likewise, subscription growth on console does not mean all console revenue grew at the same pace.

Regional growth: MEA led, North America lagged the global rate
Newzoo estimated that every region grew in 2025, but growth rates varied. The Middle East and Africa (MEA) had the highest reported rate among the regions cited here; North America grew more slowly than the global market. A regional growth rate measures change, not the region’s share of total revenue or its absolute market size.

| Region | Estimated 2025 year-over-year growth |
|---|---|
| Middle East and Africa (MEA) | 15.0% |
| Europe | 10.7% |
| North America | 5.7% |
These are Newzoo’s 2026 estimates for 2025. Since the listed rates do not give regional revenue totals or market shares, they should not be used to rank the regions by size.
U.S. players and consumer spending are a separate view
The Entertainment Software Association’s (ESA) 2025 Essential Facts report provides U.S.-specific audience findings and spending for 2024. These figures add context about participation and consumer purchases, but they are not a breakdown of Newzoo’s global 2025 revenue estimate.

- Players: The ESA reports that more than 205 million Americans play video games.
- Age: 28% of U.S. players are age 50 or older.
- Reported views: In the ESA’s survey, 81% of U.S. adults said video games provide stress relief, and 76% said games bring different types of people together. These are respondents’ reported beliefs, not measurements proving that games cause those outcomes.
For U.S. spending, the ESA’s 2025 report displays total consumer spending of $59.3 billion in 2024, comprising $51.3 billion for content, $4.9 billion for hardware and $3.2 billion for accessories. The rounded category figures add to $59.4 billion, so they do not exactly reconcile to the displayed total. The total is U.S. consumer spending across those categories for 2024—not global industry revenue and not 2025 spending.
There is also an earlier figure for U.S. content spending: an ESA January 2025 release, quoting Circana, reported $50.6 billion in 2024 content spending, up 2% from 2023. The later ESA Essential Facts report displays $51.3 billion for content. The available published figures do not fully explain that difference; treat them as figures from distinct report vintages rather than combining or silently reconciling them.

EA’s fiscal-year figures are a company example, not an industry split
Electronic Arts’ FY2025 SEC filing reports $1.478 billion in digital full-game downloads revenue and $524 million in packaged-goods revenue for its fiscal year ended March 31, 2025. Those figures describe EA alone and use a fiscal year that does not match the calendar-year period behind Newzoo’s global estimate. They illustrate that a publisher can report revenue across digital and packaged channels, but they cannot establish the industry-wide mix.

- Controllers are original OEM (not 3rd party)
- Tested and works well. Nice condition
Accessibility is a product-discovery development, not a market-size statistic
The ESA-launched Accessible Games Initiative began in March 2025 and uses tags to communicate accessibility features in games. It is relevant to how players can discover features, but it is not a measure of market growth, spending or player count.
How to read 2025 video game industry statistics
- Check the estimate date. For the global 2025 outcome, distinguish Newzoo’s June 2026 retrospective estimate from its September 2025 forecast.
- Keep the geography attached. Newzoo’s market total and ESA’s U.S. audience and spending figures measure different scopes.
- Keep the period attached. The ESA spending totals describe 2024; the global platform and regional estimates describe 2025.
- Separate growth from scale. A region or platform can grow quickly without being the largest by revenue.
- Check what is included. U.S. consumer spending figures include content, hardware and accessories, while a content-only figure is narrower; company filings cover an individual business rather than the whole market.
Read this way, the headline result is a large, growing global market with uneven performance: mobile supplied the greatest estimated platform revenue, PC grew fastest among the three platform segments, and regional and monetization trends varied. The precise figures remain estimates whose meaning depends on source, scope, period and publication vintage.
