Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. She can also use eight classes tied to elemental vessels: Rune Seer, Majesty, Grand Diviner, Masquer, Magus, Beastleader, Archmage, and Reaper. Choose a class for its weapon and class-specific abilities; moves learned through the Elemental Plot stay usable after you change classes.
Palamena’s classes at a glance
Palamena is Illystana’s young queen, balancing the responsibilities of the throne with caring for her younger brother, Iain. Her class roster gives her several ways to shape her combat role.
| Class | How it fits into Palamena’s roster |
|---|---|
| Monarch | Her default class; a caster that uses a whip. Its class strike is Icy Impact. Game8 says it becomes available after recruiting Palamena in Chapter 2. |
| Rune Seer | Elemental-vessel class; weapon, abilities, and combat details are not stated in the cited sources. |
| Majesty | Elemental-vessel class; weapon, abilities, and combat details are not stated in the cited sources. |
| Grand Diviner | Elemental-vessel class; weapon, abilities, and combat details are not stated in the cited sources. |
| Masquer | Elemental-vessel class; weapon, abilities, and combat details are not stated in the cited sources. |
| Magus | Elemental-vessel class; weapon, abilities, and combat details are not stated in the cited sources. |

Square Enix’s Palamena profile introduces her as the queen of Illystana. Game8’s Monarch guide supplies the starting-class details and roster names; Square Enix’s Japanese character page confirms the base class and vessel-associated lineup.
What changes when you change classes?
The Elemental Plot and the equipped class do different jobs. The Plot records a character’s affinity with elemental vessels; unlocking vessels opens plot branches, and advancing those branches grants moves and abilities. Moves learned this way remain available when Palamena switches classes. By contrast, a class-specific ability only takes effect while she has the class it belongs to equipped.

How to advance Palamena’s Elemental Plot
- Unlock elemental vessels. New vessels open additional branches in the Elemental Plot.
- Spend elemental points to advance a branch. Square Enix identifies Elementite found across the world and Gold Clovers as ways to obtain points; each Gold Clover exchanges one-for-one for an elemental point.
- Choose the moves and abilities that suit your setup. Plot-learned moves persist through class changes, while class-specific abilities need their matching class equipped.
These mechanics are described in Square Enix’s system introduction, published July 20, 2024.

What to choose for your play style
The available sources establish Monarch’s role and weapon, but do not provide a supported performance ranking or a complete, comparable breakdown of every Palamena class’s weapon, vessel, and abilities. There is no verified universal “best” class here. Instead, decide which class-specific abilities you want active, then consider how its weapon and vessel suit the way you want to play. Keep preferred Plot-learned moves in mind separately: those moves can remain in your setup across class changes.
If you want Palamena’s starting setup
Use Monarch for her documented caster-and-whip identity. Game8 lists its class strike as Icy Impact and says the class becomes available after Palamena joins in Chapter 2.

If you want to build around another vessel
Choose among Rune Seer, Majesty, Grand Diviner, Masquer, Magus, Beastleader, Archmage, and Reaper based on the vessel-linked class abilities and weapon options you want. The cited sources list these classes but do not establish which performs best or provide enough detail to make a reliable class-by-class combat comparison.
If you are planning for later progression
Maxing the Elemental Plot for one element expands Palamena’s starter class. Square Enix says this lets the starter class equip weapons that were previously unavailable to it, assign abilities that were not native to the class, and use class strikes from other classes. That makes an expanded Monarch a distinct late-progression option, rather than simply another name for Palamena’s initial setup.
