For the biggest roster and presentation changes, start with WWF No Mercy Plus V3. Other options use different formats: Project Outsider is a separate ROM-patch project, Showdown 64 and some creator mods rely on emulator texture and save files, and WWF No Mercy: Recompiled is a native PC port—not a fan mod. Their files and installation steps are not interchangeable, so follow the documentation for the specific project you choose.
Choose the kind of No Mercy project you want

For the texture/save mod, the author reports testing English/USA versions 1.0 and 1.1 (Rev 1), and says compatibility with non-English or non-USA versions is uncertain. The README identifies Project64 3.0.1 as current when it was updated in April 2025; that is the author’s report, not an independent compatibility guarantee. Read the creator’s installation instructions.
No Mercy Plus V3: the major roster-and-presentation overhaul
In an update dated November 18, 2025, creator Retro Randy Price (AKI_ROMS) described V3 as including an expanded roster and move sets, customizable entrances, editable character parameters, expanded entrance tracks and trons, team factions and entrances, full-motion tron videos, and updated menus. The same update says it fixed a command-branch issue affecting faction lighting and that save files from the November 12 release remain compatible. The creator describes the hack as “meant to serve as a base for more AKI ROM hack projects by myself or others.” Check the creator’s current V3 notes before downloading or configuring hardware; requirements can change.
Check compatibility before choosing hardware
The creator’s November 18, 2025 notes say the ROM exceeds 64 MB and is no longer compatible with EverDrive. They also report that Summercart64 firmware 2.20.2 will not save this ROM, while firmware 2.18.0 was the stated workaround at that time. For RetroArch, the notes call for a provided “over 64mb” core and say an Expansion Pak is required. These are project-specific, time-sensitive instructions, not general N64 compatibility rules.

The creator says the project is free after community and Patreon beta testing and should not be sold. That does not mean the original game’s assets are freely distributable.
Project Outsider: follow its own patch instructions
The AKI community patcher page lists Project Outsider for WWF No Mercy (USA) and links a readme, No Mercy V3 information, Mac-user material, and an alternate music patch. Those links make the project worth investigating, but the listing does not establish a complete roster or feature description. Use the current readme and Mac instructions rather than assuming that another hack’s patching or emulator workflow applies. Open the AKI community patcher page.

Showdown 64: an older emulator-based setup
A historical No Mercy Library community post describes Showdown 64 with a “WWF No Mercy” texture folder, a cheat file, and a save file. It says the mod works with Project64 1.7 or higher and recommends a fresh Project64 2.1 install. Treat that as period-specific forum guidance, not a promise that current Project64 versions, downloads, or file mirrors will behave the same way. See the community installation post.
Texture and save-file mods: understand the separate files
Some No Mercy projects do not patch the game ROM. The creator instructions for one themed mod call for Project64’s GlideN64 texture cache plus a supplied save file. That means its setup differs from installing a ROM patch: you need the project’s texture files and save, and must configure the emulator as the author documents. Read the creator’s README for the exact file placement and settings.

How to choose and avoid installation mistakes
- Want roster, move, and entrance changes? Look at No Mercy Plus V3, then check its current requirements.
- Considering Project Outsider? Start with its own readme, including the linked material for your platform.
- Installing an emulator-based project? Confirm whether it needs texture replacements, cheats, and/or a save file; those are distinct components.
- Before applying a ROM patch, confirm that your base game region and revision match the project’s documentation. Do not assume USA, non-USA, and revision variants are interchangeable.
- Before relying on an old guide, compare its emulator version and file names with the project’s current release notes.

Recompiled is a beta project that turns WWF No Mercy into a native PC application using N64Recomp, N64ModernRuntime, and RT64. Its project page describes Windows targeting, keyboard and gamepad input, widescreen, and high-resolution rendering. It is a port, not a roster mod; the game ROM is still required. The project’s build guide specifies the USA Rev 1 version, with SHA-1 91CEE3D096F4A76644D8B35B9AEAD6448909ABD1. If using a release rather than building from source, follow the current README and release notes because beta requirements and behavior may change. Read the Recompiled project documentation and check the build guide.

A gamepad is supported; an N64-style USB controller is one possible choice for PC play, but check operating-system and emulator compatibility for the specific controller. The original N64 instruction manual identifies the N64 controller for the console version. Consult the game manual.
