Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is a story-driven action-adventure, and most of its difficulty comes from perception puzzles that depend on sound and visual cues rather than fast reflexes. Several features described in the official Xbox listing arrived with the 2025 update rather than at launch, and they are not all available on every device. Confirm your platform before you follow any settings advice.

The base story can be played without the Dark Rot challenge, so treat it as a separate mode when you plan your session. Developer Commentary is a supplementary feature and does not change story progression.
Set up audio before the first puzzle
The game uses binaural audio, a recording method that uses two microphones to create a three-dimensional soundscape. Xbox Wire’s May 17, 2024 audio feature explains that headphones help you hear where environmental sounds are placed. That placement matters because several puzzles ask you to work out where a sound is coming from.

Headphones are not stated as a requirement for completing the game. If you play on speakers or a TV, you can still finish the story, but you may find directional cues harder to use.

Perception puzzles: how to approach them
Ninja Theory’s May 21, 2024 launch note identifies perception puzzles as a core part of the experience. The official material does not publish a complete solution set, so the approach below is general and does not reveal any specific answer.
- Stop moving when a puzzle starts and let the environment settle before you act.
- Listen before you look. Sounds in this game are placed in three-dimensional space, so the direction of a sound is often the first clue.
- Look at what changes when you turn your camera. A puzzle that looks unsolvable from one angle may read differently from another.
- Try one interaction at a time and note what changed, rather than trying several at once.
If you want the specific steps for a puzzle, open the solution section for that chapter. Those solutions are written as separate reveals so you can stop after the hint.

Combat: what the game asks of you
Ninja Theory describes combat as brutal and visceral. The official material does not provide encounter-by-encounter tactics, so the notes below cover only what applies across fights.
- Combat is part of the main story, not an optional side activity.
- Dark Rot is a combat challenge added in the 2025 update. It is a separate mode and is not needed to finish the base story.
- If a fight feels impossible, return to the last checkpoint and pay attention to how enemies move before you commit to an attack.
Optional finds and collectibles
Collectibles are usually the hardest part of any guide to verify. The creator walkthrough advertises coverage of collectibles and achievements, but that is promotional material from an independent creator. It does not establish official totals, and it does not confirm whether any given object can be missed.

Before you assume a collectible is required, check whether the game marks it as part of progression. Anything that does not block your route is optional. If you want to avoid missing an object, the safest approach is to explore each area fully before leaving it.

Dom Matthews, Studio Head at Ninja Theory, wrote in the May 21, 2024 launch note that the team worked with neuroscience and lived-experience partners to inform its depiction of Senua’s psychosis. He describes Senua as “a person who lives in an unshared reality. She sees things that others don’t, hears things that others don’t and has unique beliefs about the world.”

The game’s audio design is central to that portrayal. In the May 17, 2024 Xbox Wire feature, audio director David Garcia Diaz said: “We are not just recreating a sound, we are creating a character’s reality, and this is our way of interpretating these emotions [for Senua] with sound and music and voices, all tied together to create one moment.”
