This guide is for the 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake, released October 8, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. It is not a walkthrough for the 2001 original: the remake changes areas, combat and some puzzle solutions, so original-game directions may not apply. Konami’s game page identifies Bloober Team as the developer and describes the remake’s expanded areas and over-the-shoulder presentation.
Spoiler note: The route and puzzle guidance below is intended to help with progression. Ending names and requirements are major story spoilers; PlayStation recommends finishing a first playthrough before reading them. Stop at the marked divider if you want to discover your ending unaided.

How to use this remake walkthrough
Use the route guide for the area you are currently exploring, then consult the puzzle and item guidance when you reach a specific obstacle. The detailed route source assumes standard combat difficulty and notes that some supplies can appear in different places depending on play style. Treat optional pickups as useful checks rather than guarantees for every run. Puzzle solutions can also change with the selected puzzle difficulty.
- First playthrough: Follow the story route and avoid the ending section if you want to choose your actions without spoiler guidance.
- Puzzle help: Match the answer to your selected light, standard, or hard puzzle difficulty; do not assume one solution works for all settings.
- Completion run: Track collectibles and trophies area by area, and expect to use more than one playthrough for full completion.
Area-by-area progression
The remake’s guide coverage is organized by its locations, with maps and item or monster markings in the detailed route reference. Use the game’s own map and notes as you explore: mark locked doors, unresolved mechanisms, and branches you have not checked so you can return when a key or tool opens the way.

Eastern South Vale
Begin by following the available street route and checking accessible buildings and side paths before moving toward the next objective. Pick up the map when you find it, and examine newly entered rooms for supplies and documents. If a route ends at a locked door or obstacle, note its location and continue along the open path rather than searching every dead end repeatedly.
Wood Side Apartments
Search each accessible apartment floor and common area for keys, clues, and items that open the next section. When a room contains a puzzle mechanism, inspect nearby notes and environmental details before trying combinations. Return to locked rooms as new keys become available; apartment routes often connect previously explored spaces.
Blue Creek Apartments
Continue through the apartment complex, using its map to distinguish completed rooms from unexplored branches. The remake’s puzzle answers may differ from the original game, so use a remake-specific solution and select the one matching your puzzle difficulty. Keep track of items that need to be combined or used on a particular mechanism.
West South Vale
Follow the street route toward the next major location, checking open storefronts and passages for supplies and clues. Use newly acquired keys on marked doors, and revisit any path that was blocked earlier. Optional exploration can provide useful items, but it is not necessary to clear every side room before proceeding.
Brookhaven Hospital
Explore the public and staff areas as they open, collecting keys and examining documents that point toward the hospital’s mechanisms. Use the map to keep track of locked rooms and floors. Solve each puzzle using the difficulty-specific answer, then retrace the relevant corridor when the solution opens a new route.
Otherworld Hospital
Continue through the altered hospital environment by following newly accessible corridors and checking rooms that connect back to familiar areas. Expect the route and atmosphere to shift; do not assume that a previously safe or blocked path remains unchanged. Keep any newly found keys and puzzle items in mind when revisiting doors.
Rank #3
- Experience the two classic Silent Hill titles previously released on PlayStation 2, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams & Silent Hill 3, that defined the Survival Horror genre in its early inception
- Both titles re-mastered to HD at 720p for improved graphics on PlayStation 3
- Completely updated in-game voiceover directed by series vocalist Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and soundtrack score enhancing the storytelling and ambient music within each re-mastered game
- Full PlayStation Network Trophies support integration
South Vale, Historical Society, and Toluca Prison
Proceed through the street and interior areas in the order opened by the story. At the Historical Society and prison, map the connected rooms and record unresolved doors or mechanisms. These areas reward careful backtracking when you acquire an item that matches a door or device you passed earlier.
Labyrinth
Use the map and environmental landmarks to orient yourself as the paths change. Search each newly reached section for the route forward and required items before returning to a central junction. When a passage seems to loop, compare its landmarks with the map instead of relying on memory alone.

Lakeview Hotel and the final approach
Search the hotel’s accessible rooms for documents, keys, and puzzle clues, then revisit locked areas as progression items become available. Before moving into the final sequence, complete any nearby optional exploration you care about; some later routes may not offer a convenient return to earlier rooms.

Puzzle solutions, collectibles, and items
Choose answers for your puzzle difficulty
The remake guide provides separate solutions for light, standard, and hard puzzle difficulty. Check the solution for your selected setting before entering an answer: a correct solution on another setting may not work. The game’s clues and puzzle wording are part of the intended experience, so try the evidence in the room first if you want to preserve the challenge.
Find missed collectibles by area
Use an area-indexed collectible guide when you are backtracking for missed items, rather than searching a whole-game list without location context. Push Square’s guide states a total of 120 collectibles; that is the guide’s count, not a count independently confirmed by Konami. Push Square’s collectible index organizes locations by area and collectible type.
- Check each newly opened room and side passage before leaving an area.
- Use maps and item markings in the detailed walkthrough to identify likely missed branches.
- Remember that supply placement can vary with play style, according to the standard-combat route source.
- For trophy cleanup, compare your in-game progress with a remake-specific checklist; a complete trophy and collectible run may require multiple playthroughs.
Combat and boss encounters
Combat advice depends on your chosen combat difficulty and how much you have explored. The detailed route source assumes standard combat difficulty, so its pacing and supply suggestions are not a universal prescription. Conserve ammunition when avoiding a fight is practical, use the environment to create distance, and take time to learn an enemy’s attack timing before committing to close-range strikes. Use boss-specific guidance from a remake walkthrough if you are stuck; do not rely on original-game encounter directions when the remake has changed presentation or route details.

Endings and New Game+ — major spoilers
Stop here if you have not finished a first playthrough. PlayStation says the remake has eight endings: Leave, In Water, and Maria can occur on a first run; Rebirth, Dog, UFO, Bliss, and Stillness are additional New Game+ endings. Ending outcomes can reflect play style as well as specific actions. PlayStation’s ending guide provides high-level hints and concrete steps for several New Game+ routes.
First-run endings
Leave, In Water, and Maria are eligible during a first playthrough. Their outcomes are influenced by how you play and by specific choices or actions. If you are aiming for a particular result, consult a remake-specific ending reference before the final sequence; doing so can reveal story details PlayStation advises players to avoid until after a first completion.
New Game+ endings
All five additional endings require New Game+. PlayStation’s guide identifies these item-based steps:
- Rebirth: Collect four named items during New Game+ and use the required set to pursue this ending.
- Dog: Find and combine the two Broken Key parts.
- UFO: Find the Blue Gem and examine it at the locations specified in the route.
- Bliss and Stillness: These remake endings are New Game+ only. PlayStation’s page gives high-level hints rather than a complete step-by-step route; use a remake-specific ending reference for the full spoiler route.
Use the detailed ending route in the walkthrough reference for exact locations and sequencing. The official guide’s eligibility split is useful for planning, but its hints are not a substitute for a complete route to every ending.
