To progress in Mario & Luigi: Brothership, use Shipshape Island to locate a destination, travel there, work through its puzzles and encounters with the brothers’ abilities, and make your way to the Lighthouse. Reconnecting it advances the story. Because islands can change as the quest continues, revisiting an earlier stop may be worthwhile. This guide explains that progression loop and the core exploration and battle systems; it is not an island-by-island route or a complete collectible checklist.
Where do I go next?
Shipshape Island is the brothers’ mobile hub for traveling across Concordia. Nintendo’s official game overview describes using a spyglass to spot destinations and a cannon to reach islands.
- Return to Shipshape Island and use the spyglass to look for a destination or point of interest.
- Use the cannon to travel to the island you want to investigate.
- Explore with Mario and Luigi together, using their abilities to solve obstacles and deal with enemies.
- Follow the island’s path toward its Lighthouse, helping locals and completing the challenges you encounter.
- Reach the Lighthouse and reconnect the island to the Uni-Tree to move the broader quest forward.
The overview names Rumbla, Florall, Twistee, Merrygo, Skorcheen, and Slippenglide as examples of islands, not a complete roster or a confirmed play order. Great Lighthouses can reveal more islands, and story progress can change places you have already visited. If a destination or route seems different later, check it again rather than assuming it is permanently finished.
How do I reach an island’s Lighthouse?
The Lighthouse is the main island objective, but the available official overview does not lay out a universal route or a fixed sequence of steps for every island. Treat each visit as an exploration problem: search the accessible paths, use the brothers’ abilities when an obstacle calls for teamwork, and follow the island’s local challenges toward the Lighthouse.
#1 Best Overall
Nintendo describes puzzles involving see-saws, wall hangs, and cooperation between the brothers. Their dedicated controls matter during exploration, so use the appropriate brother’s button when the game calls for a specific action. Bros. Moves provide special exploration abilities and can be upgraded; apply the move the situation requires rather than expecting one ability to solve every obstacle.
Luigi Logic can help during exploration and boss battles. The feature information describes its role at a high level, but does not document every activation condition or puzzle solution, so pay attention to the in-game cues when it becomes relevant. For an obstacle that remains blocked, check whether another path, ability, or story event needs to be addressed before returning.

How do Bros. Moves and Luigi Logic help?
Bros. Moves
Bros. Moves are cooperative abilities used for exploration as well as combat. On islands, they help the brothers handle environmental puzzles and obstacles. They can be upgraded, so keep their role in mind as the adventure develops and use the move suited to the situation in front of you.
Luigi Logic
Luigi Logic gives Luigi a useful role in exploration and boss encounters. Nintendo’s feature page highlights it alongside Bros. Moves, but does not provide a complete trigger list. Follow prompts and changes in the encounter rather than relying on a universal activation rule.

How do I dodge attacks and deal more damage?
Combat is turn-based, with Mario and Luigi fighting side by side. Timed button presses can increase the damage of your attacks, while well-timed responses help you dodge incoming attacks. Watch the enemy’s motion and press the corresponding button at the right moment; battles reward attention to timing, not just choosing an action.
- For your attacks: time the input as the move connects to improve its result.
- For enemy attacks: watch for the incoming move and time your response to avoid it.
- For Bros. Attacks: follow the sequence carefully; these cooperative moves also depend on good timing.
Each enemy may call for practice with its attack cues. If a dodge or attack input misses, watch the animation on the next turn and adjust your timing rather than assuming every move uses the same rhythm.

When should I use Battle Plugs?
Battle Plugs provide effects such as stronger attacks, improved defense, or useful items. Their uses are limited until they recharge, so consider the encounter and remaining uses before spending them. An attack-focused effect may suit a chance to deal damage; defense or item utility may be more valuable when staying safe or recovering matters. Nintendo describes these categories and the limited-use mechanic, but does not establish one best setup for every fight.
Which version and play mode does this guide cover?
This guide covers Mario & Luigi: Brothership for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s US listing identifies the game as a single-player release for handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, with a physical edition. It lists November 7, 2024 as the release date. Digital players may need additional storage depending on console model and usage; that storage note does not mean the physical edition requires a separate card.
